TRASH RECEPTACLES FOR McNEAR BUILDING FRONTAGE The Commission discussed design of trash receptacles in this part of the redevelopment area, Chairman Mattei suggested that staff proceed with the purchase of receptacles that do not have sharp edges. Commissioner Cavanagh asked staff to look into the possibility of steam cleaning some of the containers that are downtown now. STREET TREE PURCHASING PROPOSAL The Project Area Committee (PAC) reported on a proposal received from Hillside Nursery for the following contract work @ $160/tree. -Remove section of cement 3 feet square -Recondition soil with 2 parts topsoil and 1 part nitrolized redwood sawdust -Plant 15 gallon Myoporum laetum standard trees -Stake trees with 2 inch diameter steel poles (8 feet high) -Install 4 inch pipe vertically and fill with 3/4 inch crushed rock leaving a 6 foot pocket at bottom of pipe (36 inches long) -Mortar cobblestones or water washed rock around perimeter of cement edge The proposal of the PAC is to use PCDC funds to plant these trees in front of businesses which have substantially upgraded their properties since the enactment of the Redevelopment Act in November of 1976. The obligation of the business owner would be to assume responsibility for maintenance of the trees. The planting scheme indicates trees would be located at approximately each parking meter, or every 23 feet. PCDC MINUTES -2- October 9, 1979 STREET TREE PROPOSAL cont'd. Moved /Seconded, Bond --Perry, we proceed with the tree purchase and planting. Ayes: Balshaw, Battaglia, Bond, Cavanagh, Harberson, Perry, Chairman Mattei Commission consensus was that staff should inspect each tree before it is planted and, if necessary, a hardier variety would be chosen for particularly vulnerable locations. PROJECT AREA COMMITTEE/BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA COMMITTEE Vice Chairman Bond expressed the desire to combine these two committees for discussion of those items they both put their energies towards, particularly parking problems. The Commission asked that the Project Area Committee Chairman be added to the membership of the Business and Improvement Area Committee. PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE (GOLDEN EAGLE SHOPPING CENTER TO GOLDEN CONCOURSE The Commission asked staff to submit a schedule of procedure on development of this bridge prior to the December PCDC meeting. MAHONEY PARKING LOT (across from Mary Street/Petaluma Blvd. North) The Commission expressed its original intent that the only participation that was intended was sidewalk and fence construction. Staff was directed to have a final report ready for Commission consideration at the November meeting. ANNUAL REPORT The Commission received the financial statement for the Agency as of June 30, 1979. PROJECT AREA COMMITTEE INQUIRIES ANSWERED The Commission received a copy of staff's answers to the PAC's requests for clarifications and direction of its charge. ADJOURN
