STREET TREE PURCHASING PROPOSAL
The Project Area Committee (PAC) reported on a proposal received
from Hillside Nursery for the following contract work @ $160/tree.
-Remove section of cement 3 feet square
-Recondition soil with 2 parts topsoil and 1 part nitrolized
redwood sawdust
-Plant 15 gallon Myoporum laetum standard trees
-Stake trees with 2 inch diameter steel poles (8 feet high)
-Install 4 inch pipe vertically and fill with 3/4 inch crushed
rock leaving a 6 foot pocket at bottom of pipe (36 inches long)
-Mortar cobblestones or water washed rock around perimeter of
cement edge
The proposal of the PAC is to use PCDC funds to plant these trees
in front of businesses which have substantially upgraded their
properties since the enactment of the Redevelopment Act in
November of 1976. The obligation of the business owner would be
to assume responsibility for maintenance of the trees. The planting
scheme indicates trees would be located at approximately each
parking meter, or every 23 feet.
