REOUESTED COUNCIL-ACTION:
Approve the request to use$5,000,of unreserved park development.funds:for preparing a park master •
plan for the Capri Creek interface between Sunrise park and the Woodside Village subdivision.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Recreation, Music and Parks Commission recommends approval of the request.
BACKGROUND
Over the last three to four months, neighbors of Sunrise Park have worked with the Petaluma Tree
Committee and the Recreation„Music and Parks Commission regarding landscaping!along Capri Creek.
Village:subdivision neighbors became concerned with the interface of Capri•Creek and Sunrise Park.
Sunrise Park consists of open turf+andsporadic trees with no'fornialized'plantings.within 30 yards of
Capri Creek. Neighbors of the park requested assistance in providing:a similar landscape approach as is
found in the two adjoining subdivisions (Glenbrook and Morningstar). :Landscape treatment includes use
of native grasses,trees, shrubbery, groundcover and.a meandering;path.
The Recreation, Music and.Parks'Commission,expressed the desire to work with,the neighbors in
creating a master plan of the'area,'with'the;hopethat-heighbors'would work'with the City,in developing
the proposed park'improvements; including•fund raising.
The requested funds will be usediorhirea landscape architect ivho:'will,work.with the neighborhood, the
Tree Committee and the Recreation, Music and parks Commission in creating;a master plan,
ALTERNATIVES:
a) Not approve the request.
b) Decrease the amount-requested.
c) Delay the request until the Parks and Recreation Departments Capital Improvement budget is
prepared for the new cycle(August, September).
CONSEOUENCES'OENOT ACTING:
City staff, members Of the Tree Committee and the Recreation;'Music and Parks Commissionrwill"try to
continue'workingona,conceptual,plan with the neighborhood:

A landscape architect will be hired to preparethe master plan;with input received:from'the
neighborhood, the Tree.C_ ommittee,the'Recreation,-Music and Parks Commission and, ultimately, the
City Council.
