HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 00-083A N.C.S. 05/01/2000 .J 1 I~eS®IUt1011 ~O. 00-83A ~.C.~. 2 of the City of Petaluma, California 3 5 6 . 7 WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma has a history of being a community of leaders and 8 citizens who have accepted people of all races, religions, color, sexual orientation and beliefs; 9 and 10 11 WHEREAS, the leaders of the City of Petaluma have set a high standard for tolerance 12 within the community by adoption of policies and legislation including community-oriented 13 policing programs, domestic partnership legislation, and programs for those victimized by 14 domestic violence; and 15 16 WHEREAS, the Jewish Community has a long history of contributions to the City and its 17 citizens; and 18 19 WHEREAS, there has recently been a cowardly act resulting in the burning of a Fishman 20 Supply delivery truck and defacing of property of Fishman Supply with anti-Semitic graffiti; and 21 22 WHEREAS, the City Council, City staff, and citizens of Petaluma have arisen as one in 23 opposition to these acts of bigotry and intolerance and in support of the Fishman family. 24 25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Petaluma, 26 on behalf of ALL citizens of Petaluma, condemns the acts of hatred against the Fishman family 27 and the Jewish community, and stands in solidarity with the Fishman family and all members of 28 the community, be they of whatever ethnic background, sexual orientation, color or religious 29 belief, against such cowardly and reprehensible acts; and 30 31 Resolution No. N.C.S. 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Petaluma hereby 2 pledges its best efforts to be vigilant against such acts and continue to promote an atmosphere of 3 tolerance and understanding of all peoples of the City of Petaluma. 4 5 6 7 g d:/manager/stouder/fs0400/kc Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
