HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 00-110 N.C.S. 06/26/2000 1Zesolution No. 00 - 110 N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California REQiJESTING THE BOARD OF SIJPERVISOR5 TO CONSOL~ATE A REGULAR GENERAL MjJNICIPAL ELECTION ON NOVEIVIBEI~ 7, 2000 WITH THE STATEW~E GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma has called a regular General Municipal Election to be held on November 7, 2000, for the purpose of electing three Council Members, and two Petaluma Joint Union High School Board Trustees; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the regular General Municipal Election be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date and that within the City the precincts, polling places and election officers of the elections be the same, and that the Election Department of the County of Sonoma canvass the returns of the Regular Municipal Election, and that the election be held in all respects as if there were only one election: N®W, THEREFORE, THE CITE' COiTNCIL OF THE CITE' OF PETALiTIVIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, IDECLARE, DETERIVIINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That, pursuant to the Charter of the City of Petaluma and requirements of Election Code Section 10403, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Sonoma is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a .regular Municipal Election with the Statewide Primary election on Tuesday, November 7, 2000, for the purpose electing three Council Members to the City Council, and two Trustees to the Petaluma Joint Union School Board for four year terms expiring December 31, 2004; and SECTION 2. That, the County Election Department is authorized to canvass the returns of the regular General Municipal Election. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used; and Resolution No. 00- N.C.S. SECTION 3. That the Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the County Election Department to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the consolidated election; and SECTION 4. That the City of Petaluma recognizes additional costs may be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for such costs; and SECTION 5. That the County Election Department is requested to determine the cost of processing Absentee Ballots for this election and is further requested to report said cost to the City Clerk of the City of Petaluma at the earliest possible time following the election; and SECTION 6. That the billing for all costs of the City and School Board elections shall be submitted to the City Clerk of the City of Petaluma. All costs shall be divided pursuant to Education Code 5227; and SECTION 7. That the City Clerk shall file a certified copy of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and with the County Election Department. Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said. City.
