S. 1 of the City of Petaluma, California z 3 4 RES®LIJTI®N ADDING TW®HIST®RIC 5 STYLE STREET LIGDT STANDARDS T® THE 6 CITY ®F PETALiJNIA'S EXISTING STREET LIGHTING STANDARD 7 8 9 WHEREAS, there have been an increased number of requests for alternative street light 10 standards that are architecturally compatible with the historic downtown and surrounding 11 neighborhoods; and, 12 13 WHEREAS, to facilitate this desire and to provide flexibility and alternative street light types, 14 several street light standards were considered as an alternative to the current Cobra mastarm 15 street light standard; and, 16 17 WHEREAS, the criteria used to evaluate street; light types were: 18 1. Ability to meet lighting level standards for arterials, residential and downtown 19 settings. 20 2. Street lights that are compatible with the historic look of the City of Petaluma. 21 3. Energy efficiency. 22 4. Are reliable and have a good record for being been in use for several years. 23 5. Interchangeability and ease in maintenance. 24 6. Good value; and, 25 26 WHEREAS, to meet the demand for historic period lighting, manufactures of both poles and 2? lamps have developed period design which meet the illumination, energy efficiency and durability 28 required by today's Cities; and, - 29 30 WHEREAS, the historic style street light standards would be used in selected areas; and, 31 Resolution No. 99-70 N.C.S. Pr`lg''@ 1 Of 2 1 WHEREAS, it is recommended that the following two historic street light styles be added as an 2 alternative to the City's Cobra head mastarm street light standard: 3 4 ? 16-foot historic style street light for residential neighborhoods and downtown settings, 5 using an "acorn" lighting fixture, and fluted pole and base. 6 7 ? 32-foot historic style mastarm street light for wide, high volume streets, using a suspended 8 "tear drop" lighting fixture held by a decorative support bracket, and either mounted on 9 existing street light pole or purchased with a fluted pole and base. 10 11 N®W, THEIZEFOItE, BE IT ICES®L,VED by the City Council of the City of Petaluma, that 12 staffis hereby authorized to specify the above referenced street light standards. 13 14 15 me/lightsre/s: 16 Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
