HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION Earth Day 04/20/2009mmo 7 I APRIL 22,2009- EARTH DAY WHEREAS. people the world over celebrate April 22" d as Earth Day, and the City of Petaluma will join with other like-minded conanunities in its promotion of educational programs for sustainable living, and WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma is a corm-1111nity endowed with a rich history, diverse culture, natural resources and habitat, a community that gives rise to leading edge technologies, clean industry, innovative and collaborative coalitions, and WHEREAS, the Earth Charter is a declaration of interdependence that sets forth an ethical framework with an enhanced sense of responsibility for our ecological, economic and environmental stewardship, gives an urgent call to create global partnerships for sustainability principles and development-, and WHEREAS, the Earth Charter lays out sixteen major principles and numerous sub - principles under four key headings: Respect and Care for the Community of Life; Ecological Integrity, Social and Economic Justice, and Democracy, Nonviolence and Peace, and WHEREAS., the Earth Charter as an ethical docLirrient, is intended to stimulate individuals. dividuals. families, communities, organizations, schools, governments and businesses to reflect on the state of the world, engage in dialogue and, Ultimately take action for the good of humanity, and 0.
