AGENDA REPORT
FOR
RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE COMPLETION OF THE AIRPORT OBSTRUCTION LIGHTS
PROJECT No. 6510-1
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
On April 5, 2004, W. Bradley Electric completed work on the Airport Obstruction Lights
Project, for a final construction cost of $37,751.00. The total cost of the project was
$39,638.60, including administration, design and construction management. The City
building department has signed off on this project. Sufficient funds are available to accept
and close out the project.
2. BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this project was to install three L-810 steady burning red obstruction
lights atop three 80 -foot floodlight poles at Prince Park to warn pilots of their presence as
they make approaches to runway 11 at the Petaluma Municipal Airport. The same poles
were also painted with orange and white stripes as described in the U.S. Dept. of
Transportation Advisory Circular AC 70/7460-1K.
The project was started in November prior to the winter rains. The Contractor used a
large manlift to access the top of the existing light poles. Because the wet grass made it
difficult to maneuver and support the large piece of equipment once the rains came, the
City agreed to delay the work until March 2004. The Contractor resumed work in March
2004 and completed the project on April 5, 2004. The City has just received the final sign
off from the City building department to allow staff to close out the project.
