CITY 4F PETALU April 18, 2005
POST OFFICE Box 61
PETALUMA, CA 94953-0061
Dear Lee Ann:
Per our conversation last week, I am writing you to request that the corporate
officers of Comcast reconsider the elimination of the FM services for the
Petaluma area. The City has received numerous calls from citizens who are
not satisfied with the loss of this service.. I acknowledge the corporate reason
for the elimination: cleanup of the band width to improve other services, allow
the increase of service speed for High Speed Internet (HIS) and the increasing
demand for HSI and High Definition TV.
While we clearly recognize that the FM service is not mentioned in the
Franchise Agreement and that Comcast retains the right to modify the channel
services, the enjoyment of FM music through the Comcast cable connection has
meant a great deal to our residents, particularly those in the more hilly areas of
our City where antennae reception is marginal if not non-existent.
At the request of the City Council, the City Manager, Mike Bierman, has
scheduled discussion of this topic on the City Council agenda for April 4, 2005
at the 7 PM meeting. We request that a representative from Comcast attend
the meeting and be prepared to discuss the issue.
On a separate issue, as I promised last week, I have asked Trae Cooper, GIS
Manager to contact Jason regarding the options available for providing Comcast
with a digital base map to allow your engineering section to utilize current
conditions as a background to your `plant' maps.
Sincerely,
General Plan Adndnistrariott `l . `. ` •,. \ `,1_.
