1. Resolution Amending the Classification and Compensation Plan by Establishing the New Pay Range of
Director of Parks and Recreation.
Summary Statement:
The City of Petaluma is preparing to commence a recruitment process for the position of Director of Parks and
Recreation due to the upcoming retirement of the current incumbent. A salary survey was conducted on the
position and it is recommended that the current salary range be adjusted upwards by about 7% to be competitive
in the labor market.

Resolution Amending the Classification and Compensation Plan
By Establishing the New Pay Range
Of Director of Parks and Recreation
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City of Petaluma is preparing to commence a recruitment
process for the position of Director of Parks and Recreation due to the upcoming
retirement of the current incumbent. A salary survey was conducted on the position and
it is recommended that the current salary range be adjusted upwards by about 7% to be
competitive in the labor market.
2. BACKGROUND: A recent salary survey and internal comparison indicates that the salary
range for the position of Director of Parks and Recreation be adjusted to $99,123 to
$128,694. That adjustment increases the current range by about 7% from the current
range of $92,735 to $120,379.
3. ALTERNATIVES:
Not adopt resolution.
4. FINANCIAL IMPACTS: None. The City Manager can offer the newly selected Director of
Parks and Recreation an annual salary within in the approved pay range. Salary offered
will be dependant upon the qualifications of the candidate.
5. CONCLUSION:
Adoption of this resolution revising the class specifications in the City's Classification
and Compensation Plan enables the City to keep its program updated and current.
6. OUTCOMES OR PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS THAT WILL IDENTIFY SUCCESS OR
COMPLETION:
Implementation of Resolution.
7. RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Resolution and amendment of the City's Classification and
Compensation Plan.
RESOLUTION AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION AND COMPENSATION
PLAN BY ESTABLISHING THE NEW PAY RANGE OF
DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION
WHEREAS, the City wishes to keep current its Classification and Compensation Plan;
and amendments and or revisions to the Classification and Compensation Plan are effective upon
approval by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager/ Personnel Officer has determined that the pay range for
the classification of Director of Parks and Recreation be adjusted; and
WHEREAS, the pay range for the classification as listed below, are hereby
recommended, effective with the adoption of this Resolution; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby approve
the amendments to the Classification and Compensation Plan as written in this Resolution
including the amendment in the Competitive Service of the Personnel System; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this action is taken pursuant to Personnel Code
3.04.020 and Personnel Rules and Regulations (Rule IV- Classification and Rule V —
Compensation) and, that the notice of this action has been properly posted.
