Petaluma was called to order by.Mayor Putnam
at the hour of 7:,3,0 o'clock p.m.

The invocation -was- given by the Reverend Glenn
W. Schafer, of,,the Nazarene.
The minutes.; of- , , Decembe'r 18, 1 were approved
with the "follow=ing change on page 8:. Item -- "New
, Zoning.•Ordinance "-- the,number.of absentee votes
should be' 3 - instead. of 2.
Brief comments were made. by'Mayor Putnam by way
of-welcoming. the.new year. she commended City
Manager Robert Meyer - for his analytical year-
end -repprt of ious issues arid problems
contin'urig to face the. Council during 1973., and
which -all relate specifics that are needed
to be accomplished,..
C_ommun- cations' continue to be a number one prob-
lem the ..Mayor - stated. • Last year, at her sugges-
tion, a County -wide Informational +Congress was
held with some °success'and she-hoped that a
=similar program. will again. be offered as a means
to understand and; dis=cuss problems with the
County and other cities.
She proposed that a practical document -be pre -
pared containing "'.day by day" questions and
answers that would be- helpful to the citizens
of the community. She added that various means
will be explored by the Council to keep the
community, better informed.
She .concluded her remarks by thanking the members
of the. Council. and th& m_ embers of the staff for
a g : o,od.year- just ended; and on behalf of the
Council, she wished everyone a.prosperous new year.
