HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 07/20/19706.3 Council Meeting 1 Attendance Invocation Approval of Minutes MINUTES OF MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA July 20, 1970 Regular meeting of the Council of the City of.Petaluma was called.to order by Mayor Putnam at the hour of 7:30 - o'clock p.m. .i Present: Councilmen Brainerd, Brunner, Cavanagh, Jr.., Joerger, Mattei, and Mayor Putnam. Absent: Councilman.Battaglia.' The invocation was-given by Msgr. Clyde Tillman, St. Vincent's Church. The minutes of July 6, July 9, and. July 13 1970 were approved as recorded. Agenda Mayor Putnam noted the numbering system on the agenda. She stated that.this idea was suggested by City Attorney - Robert to expedite the meeting in an orderly manner. Councilman Battaglia Councilman Battaglia entered the meeting at 7:35 o'clock p.m. Weed Abatement This being the time set for public hear - Res. #5525 N.C.S. ing of protests on the Superintendent of .�-- Streets' Report of Cost of Weed Abatement,- (V the Clerk - announced that no written protests 'were.received.. Inspector Dwight Sutton..of the Fire Department reviewed the cost.of the Weed Abatement Program for' 19,69 =1970. Said summary submitted and filed. No oral protests were heard and the public hearing was closed. Fire Chief Benton commented that very few.complaints have.been received on the total Weed Abate- ment Program this year; however, he asked the Council to meet.with him in a study session to discuss .,changes for the 1970- 1971 Weed Abatement Program. The City Manager was directed to schedule such a study session. He recommended Traffic Signal accepting the-low. bid of Rosendin Electric; Installation Inc.; whereupon, Resolution No. 5526 N.C.S., Project GT -10 -69 awarding contract in accordance with - the Res. #552'6 N.C.S. plans and specifications for the (continued) project, was introduced by Councilman Joerger, seconded by Councilman Brunner, and adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Band Concert - Letter, dated July 10, 1970, from Mr. Walnut Park Ned Manager, Chamber of Commerce, Res. #552.7 .N.C.S. requesting use of Walnut Park for a band concert on August.16, 1970, read and filed. Letter, dated July.17, 1970, from Chief -of Police Larry Higgir'rs rep- - ommending approval of the request -, read and filed. Councilman Joerger reported that -the Chairman of the Old Adobe Fiesta expressed concern of the _conflict of the. band concert with the Old Adobe Fiesta on the "same day. Supervisor George DeLong presented Sonoma County Director of Works Don Head to discuss- ,street improvements on Sunny- slope Avenue ;..a''street 99.percent under County jurisdiction and bordering the City of Petaluma. In discussing the matter,-Mr. Head stated that'. improving. the- street with curb gut - ter,':sidewalk, sewer and water exten- sions where­ needed requires a petition -to be.filed'•with'the. Sonoma County Board of Supervisors requesting street ,improvements. He explained that the costs.of'the i mprove- ment except the street, would be .financed through an assessment district of the pro perty owners - nvolved -, and that construc- tion of the street itself would be a. matter for:.County consideration.
