HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 01/20/1969MINUTES OF MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA January 20,, 1969 Council Meeting Regular meeting of -the Council of the City of Petaluma was called to order by Mayor Putnam at the hour- of 7:30 o'clock p.m. Attendance Present: Councilmen Battaglia, Brainerd, Cavanagh, -Jr., Colin, Lipman and Mayor Putnam. Absent: None. Invocation Due to the absence of Reverend James F. Cogburn, Church of God of Prophecy, no in- vocation was given. Approval of Minutes The minutes of January 6, and January 7, 1969 . were approved as recorded. Councilman Joerger requested that the last sentence in the minutes of January 11, 196;9 under items, "Salary - City Engineer" and "Salary - City Manager ", be changed to read as follows: "Councilman Joerger stated that in making a comparison of.the salary of the City Engineer /City Manager, it is higher in Petaluma than in several comparable.cities in the area and therefore he did not feel that the increase ww;as justified at this time." The minutes-of-January 11., 1969 were then approved as corrected. The minutes of January 15, 1969, were approved as recorded. Inauguration - United In recogn Day, Mayor Putnam States President commended to'everyone the new President of the United States - President Nixon - who took office today. to do his.very best to serve our country as did the former President. She expressed gratefulness. that.a change is to be found in the pattern over. the years. A former President used to be talked about as someone in the past who no longer existed:,_ but. now there is a reservoir -of talent in Presidents who have served their country and who still live on to contribute a background of service to a country as great as _ ours.. She.concluded.by saying that as we serve at the local level (a level, which all Presidents have said is the most important bastion of our demo.cracy), -we should give our best wishes to the President, and so we do. Mr.. Arthur Parent, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Industrial= C'ommi'ttee - , and Mr. Norman Van Bebber, member' - of - the Chamber •of Commerce Board of Directors, addressed the Council in opposition of the rezoning and were concerned about future requests for development�of-mobile home parks in ndus'tri -ally zoned land.
