AUTHORIZING STAFF TO APPLY FOR THE
FEDERAL HIGHWAY BRIDGE PROGRAM GRANT
FOR. THE SEISMIC VULNERABILITY EVALUATION
OF THE WASHINGTON STREET BRIDGE
WHEREAS, the Highway Bridge Program (HBP) is a Federal safety program that
provides federal-aid to local agencies to rehabilitate locally-owned public highway bridges; and,
WHEREAS, the California State Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has been
delegated the responsibility for the administration of the program within the State; and,
WHEREAS, staff believes that a detailed seismic evaluation of the Washington Street
Bridge will provide the City with data to better assess vulnerability of the bridge to failure during
a seismic event; and,
WHEREAS, City staff recommends that a seismic vulnerability evaluation/analysis be
performed to determine whether a seismic retrofit is required.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Petaluma City Council hereby:
1. Approves filing of an application for the Highway Bridge Program (HBP) grant for
seismic analysis of the Washington Street Bridge.
z. Authorizes the City Manager to sign the grant application, to be submitted to Caltrans for
consideration.
