HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 08/18/1966MINUTES OF MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL PETA.LUMA ; CALIFORNIA August 18, 1966 Council Meeting Special Meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to order by Mayor Helen Putnam at the hour of 5:00 o'clock pxr Attendance Present: Councilmen Brainerd, Cavanagh, Jr., Colin, Joerger, Lipman, and Mayor Putnam. Absent: Councilman Battaglia. Notice of the Call Notice of the Special Nieeting called for August 18, 1966, the certificate of the City Clerk of the delivery of said notice and the consent of the members of the City Council to the holding of said meeting, submitted and filed. /o Boat Launching The Mayor announced that the-special meeting was called for Ramp Facility the purpose of consideration and action on the proposed boat Res. #4601 NCS launching ramp facility. In answer to Councilman Cavanagh, Jr. , the Mayor reported on the telephone call . received from Mr. Montelli, member of the State Small Craft Harbor Commission, after the special meeting on August 16th was ,adjourned. Mr. Montelli said it would be appropriate for us to ask for a launching ramp grant and to get the matter into the budget, and that this grant was not to be associated with the harbor. It was his consid- eration that it was for mobile boaters only, and was not con - sidered as part of the current Harbor plan. He also stated that the feasibility of the harbor has changed and an up -to- date study would be; in order. He felt that the Ebasco Report and other studies should be filed and a current study be de- veloped. Councilman Cavanagh, Jr. , then asked several questions re- lating to the boat ramp and the Marina. He indicated that he was not in favor of the launching ramp. A general discussion period followed. Bob McLaughlin, rep - resenting the Citizens' Committee, addressed the Council and stated he o' pposed the boat launching ramp as he felt the Council did not have sufficient information on the matter. Peter Pracchia also spoke against the boat ramp. The City Clerk was then asked to read the resolution in its entirety, whereupon Resolution #4601 N. C. S. approving lo- cation of boat launching facilities and declaration of intention to acquire necessary property therefor, was introduced by Councilman Joerger, seconded by Councilman _Lipman, and adopted by 5 affirmative, 1 negative and 1 absentee votes. Councilman Cavanagh, Jr. , cast the negative vote and stated he voted "no" becuase of the many uncertainties involved that might jeopardize the Marina plans. The Mayor announce(, that Mr. Shollenberger, Mr. Byrd and she plan to attend the Fort Bragg meeting.
