Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to order. by City Clerk Gladys 'Wallin. ROLL CALL: Present: Councilmen Crinella, Ellis, Gustafson, Matzen and Van .Bebberd Absent: Councilman King and - Mayor Parent, Upon a motion made by Councilman Gustafson, seconded by Councilman Md_tzen, Councilman Crinella was unanimously appointed Vice President of the "Council to preside 'at this meeting. INVOCATIO Invocation was given by Reverend Godfrey Hartzel, St . Episcopal Church° - APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes from the meeting of January 19, 1959, were approved as recorded, 1 :Special Guests Acting Mayor Crinella noted the presence of Mr.. Glen Whitney, Teacher at. Kenilworth Jr. High School, and a large group of his pupils in the audience. Councilman Van Bebbe'r introduced the Scouts who would representing the Council. and City Officials on Government Day; next Monday. R EPORTS OF CITE' OFFICIALS: City Manager Claims approved for payment by the City Manager were submitted. and. filed; whereupon, - Res. #2187 N. Co S introduced by Councilman Gustafson, seconded by Councilman .,Ellis, approving claims and bills (Noss - 2663 - to 2,894 inclusive), was read and adopted by 5 a:ffirrnative votes, 2 absentees, .City Planning Commission Variance.- Anthony J. Conte Resolution recomin ending a :at a. .Variance be granted to Anthony J. Conte, Lot 8, Brainerd Ave. - to allow a 10;° front yard setkaack,- submitted and filed. Councilman Bebber 'statedthat`he understood variance had originally been granted in this case at the time the map - of - the subdivision had been submit- tec Be then requested to know for how long a variance re mained. in effect after it had ;been granted° - City,-,Attorney Ed Robert explained that, - in. his opinion, if a variance is not. used within one year from the date it is gr. anted,, it will - expire. „To`.a question by Councilman Crinella, the City.. LEISER, d bo ao MANN'S NURSERY, FOR A VARIANCE FROM THE PROVISIONS OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, 1958 EDITION. " was adopted by 5 affirmative votes, 2 absentees. At the request of Councilman Matzen, the City Engineer was directed to fill in the portions of Madison Street which are in a poor condition. Councilman Crinella called attention to the situation near Fair and Bassett Streets where rocks - are continually being .dropped on the street by the trucks belonging to the contractor who is constructing the new Sr. High School, He asked if something could be done about this, Police Chief Del Maestro informed Council that he had been watching this area, and the contractor was trying to cooperate. However, they were working.aga.inst time on this construction job,_ and it was all but impossible not � spill rock from time to time The City Manager stated that he had contacted the contractor and that arrangements had been made with him whereby th street would be clean, either'by the contractor's men, or if they - did not have time, by the - City street crews, - The City, under these arrangements, will be reimbursed for time involved. Councilman Tan Bebber stated that it was his understanding that there had bee f an amount budgeted for beautification of` the water front this year; and requested to know what was- being planned along these lines City Manager Ed explained that - the funds referred to by Council- man Van Bebber had been budgeted for improvement of - Water Street in connection with the - amount of dredging than will be - done this year° If - there are funds left over from this, he understood this money would then be used for of the river�bankg - 'and /or construction - of an boat landing. Mro Frank stated that the - Engineering Dept. would be submitting a report on the matter in the near future. For the benefit of the students and scouts attending the meeting, City Engineer Al Roberts b :efly reviewed the proposed Trafficways Plan for Petaluma which had been submitted by DeLeuw, Cather & Co, ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned. ayor: Attest:: ' City lerko (8)
