Mayor ' P I aren asked the Council's permission to have a letter from the
Boys` Club read at this time.
There being no objection to this, a letter dated April 14, 1959, signed
by Barney Margolis, submitting a formal request for theBoys' Club. to acquire
from the City of Petaluma a parcel, of land in McNear Park' adjacent to the
Boys' Club. was read and filed. - The letter had been addressed to City Attorney
Edouard Roberto
Mr. Roger Pearson, member of the Boys.' Club Board of Directors,
addressed the Council explaining that this organization was considering the
acquisition of additional land for expa ; ns,ion of its facilities. They are now
considering the construction of a swimming pool and would like to find out if
the land` in McNear Park could be used for this project.
The City. A.ttorney that the McNea..r Park - property - had been
a gift.from the McNear family to the City of Petaluma; the deeds state, generally,
that the land is to be used for a recreation park for the - use of the citizens of
the City of Petaluma. Mr. Robert stated that he doubted very much, at the
present tune that the City would be legally in a .position - to donate or - lease
the land if it were to used strictly and solely by the Boys'. He
there might be a possibility of some sort of joint use of the land by the Boys'
Club and. the City
After further discussion, the City. Attorney was directed to meet with
the Boys' Club Committee on this matter to'determine if the problem could be
solved.
The City Manager was directed to provide the Council with some sort
of map on the area under discussion.
It was suggested that the Boys' Club-Committee attend a meeting of the
