ROLL CALL: Present: Councilmen Crinella, Ellis, Gustafson,. King And Mayor Parent. Absent: CouncilmenMatzen and Van Bebber. INVOCATION Invocation was given by Reverend William Ruhl, United Church of Christ. . APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes from the meeting of April 6 1959, were 'approved as recorded. 1 1 Mayor ' P I aren asked the Council's permission to have a letter from the Boys` Club read at this time. There being no objection to this, a letter dated April 14, 1959, signed by Barney Margolis, submitting a formal request for theBoys' Club. to acquire from the City of Petaluma a parcel, of land in McNear Park' adjacent to the Boys' Club. was read and filed. - The letter had been addressed to City Attorney Edouard Roberto Mr. Roger Pearson, member of the Boys.' Club Board of Directors, addressed the Council explaining that this organization was considering the acquisition of additional land for expa ; ns,ion of its facilities. They are now considering the construction of a swimming pool and would like to find out if the land` in McNear Park could be used for this project. The City. A.ttorney that the McNea..r Park - property - had been a gift.from the McNear family to the City of Petaluma; the deeds state, generally, that the land is to be used for a recreation park for the - use of the citizens of the City of Petaluma. Mr. Robert stated that he doubted very much, at the present tune that the City would be legally in a .position - to donate or - lease the land if it were to used strictly and solely by the Boys'. He there might be a possibility of some sort of joint use of the land by the Boys' Club and. the City After further discussion, the City. Attorney was directed to meet with the Boys' Club Committee on this matter to'determine if the problem could be solved. The City Manager was directed to provide the Council with some sort of map on the area under discussion. It was suggested that the Boys' Club-Committee attend a meeting of the Recreation, Parks & Music Commission to go over the matter. (5) I mt April 20, 1959 Mr.. Donald. Thoms .informed the Council of a meeting tomorrow at 2:00 P. m. with the ,Board of Supervisors on unification of thought - on the proposed 4 -year state college.. He stated that the Chamber of Commerce had been invited to attend th.ls'meeting and be- was of the impression that the City had also received notice of this, Mayor Parent "'stated that: he h:ad received .no notice of such a :rnee.ti.ngo Chief of* Police Del Maestro informed the Council. that his department had only received of the new police care which had been purchased by the City this year.. He had been told that the other two cars were not"yet built, so he' did not know when they would be .received.° q y g To 'a question b Councilman King, Chief Del Maestro answered that they had not run into any unusual expenses on the old cars - as yet, Councilman Gustafson congratulated the City, Police `Depto on the amount of employees who had recently attended the F B,1. school inSanta Rosa and r6c..eived their diplomas. City Manager Ed Frank requested the CounciVs permission to submit the annual budget at the second meeting in May, rather than the first one. Permission was granted as . requested.
