Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to order
by Mayor Parent.

Councilman King called Attention - to the fact the 'audit'again
recommended a review - of official - fidelity bonds6 In the City '
accountants, he believed the entire warrant system of paying.. claims should be
changed,
In anwer to question by - Mayor Parent, the City Manager stated that
about 25% of the cities" still use the Warrant system; . the majority do not,

Mayor Pak6ni noted that the City's auditors, Begley & Deaton, wished
to meet the Council in ordet to. go over the system of auditing reports

Street Lighting
Councilman -Cr'inella called attention to the fact that some citizens on
Walnut St. have been complaining about the street lighting° in the area and would
like to have the present lights replaced with a newer type, He went on to say
that he would like to see an extended program set up which would take care of
some of the obsolete lights in the City. Councilman Crinella. requested that new
street lighting be installed at the intersection of Walnut & Prospect Streets.

Explainng.-the present policy on replacement of street lights, the City .
Engineer stated that new was being,-nsta led primarily on streets that
have been recently Brought up to City standards. Other than this, his depart-
ment has been restricting - the new lighting to problem areas,_ etc. He went on
to say that his office was at this time working with the P'.. G. & E Co. on a
study- c c >ur street lighting,. and he believed this study take about a year
to com olete, It was - hoped that the street lighting pro gram could be coordinated

Councilman Van. Bebber felt that new street lighting should not be
z c �r �t aed to streets that have been improved, Mayor Parent agreed with this
1 of reasoning.
Re Widening of Prospect Street
At the' reque =st of Councilman Crineila, the City Engineer was directed
ro prepare a cost estimate on the widening of Prospect Street and what this
project `Yvould involve.
Mayor Parent pointed out that this matter had been brought up during
buoet study this year.
Councilman Matzen informed the Council of a telephone call he had
received from Mrs. Fred Lewis, El - Rose Dr. ,_ in connection with the
at " D" St. & El Di- She was concerned about the safety of school children
crossing there - and had talked with the Chief of Police on - subject. Councilman
Matzen asked that Manager check into this matter to see if a survey had
been,made of 'the area.
Councilman Matzen also believed a study was to be made in connection
with the installation of a "yield right -of -way" sign at the intersections of 4th &
"F Streets and 5th & ''F" Streets,
Victor. DeCarli Rezone
Referring to' a report from the City. Attorney in regard to the action
talken. at the last Council meeting_ on the DeCarli Rezone, Councilman King stated
than he believed the Council should take some action .on this subject within 60 days.
Mayor Parent assured Councilman King that within the legal time, he
believed the Council would certainly do something.
`vlayor Parent at this - time welcomed a group - . of students from the Senior
Problems Class, stating that the Council was very happy to have them attend the
meeting.
Mrs. Phyllis Clay addressed the Council extending an invitation to them
and anyone in the audience to be at Walnut Park on Oct. 13 at 4:30 p. m. to
welcome, 'Governor Pat Brown to -Petaluma,
The Clerk was asked tb� remind members of the Council of this date.
