Library Trustees .R ecommendation to Further Planning Program for More Adequate Library Iit %es = Report 6f'Libr4,ry Trustees dated Dec. .14, 1960, . recommending the following, submitted and filed. - ",(1) That the Board of Library Trustees be authorized to select and hire an architect and a library consultant for the purpose of developing preliminary plans for a tibrar buildin p y p y. g. _ . "(2) That the City Council provide funds sufficient to cover fees for these architectural - a nd consulting sprvices-a'' Relative to the ;legal status - of the present library: property, ` °the City Attorney explained than there was a ,reversionary clause 'in the deed not used for library purposes➢ a suggested that if the site were not adequate for the new library, the City might consider -requesting- the court to allow the, property to be sold with. the funds used for other- land acquisition under the, "Cy Pre &" doctrine, Mr. Robert felt that the 1- brary property could be sold, but noted that the court would have to rule on such a .situation° Councilman Van Bebber , requested that the Library Board° s recommenda tion be considered by the Council at a study * session before any action was taken, in view of the .fact that this had been one .of the projects included in the Citizens Advisoty, Committee report. The City-Manager was directed to set up a joint meeting of the-Council & the Citizens Com m.ittee for the first part of Jan. .1960, for the purpose of'going over this matter together with . the report of the . Mr. August Lepori, Chairman of the subject committee, reported that they ,had investigated the matter of federal and state 4id for 'Urban renewal and had that Petaluma situation was such that they did not believe it c ' ould sneer the - necessary requirements . - Cities must be over - 2,5, - 000:population and these projects must - include both business 'and residen'tial p roperties in order to be eligible for xssistance.
