APPROVAL OF MINUTES' Minute`s from the imeetings of January 27, and February 3, 1964, were approved , as! recorded. PUBLIC HEARINGS; Art.Hansen - Variance Application - (Denied by City -Planning.Commis,sion) This °'being the time' set for"public hearing on the subject matter, a communi- cation from 'Thomas H.. and .Evelyn M. Landreth, dated d February 13, 1964, appealing the decision of the City Planning Commission, which denied Mr..Hansen's application far -a vaaanc t© -alley a substandard lot. area of 4, 180 square feet and a:substandard width of 35 feet, read and filed. Report of Director of Planning dated.January 31, 1964, recommending denial of the subject - variance application, submitted and filed. Mr. .:Hansen addressed the -Council explaining why he felt that a home 'of good :design could be built on this lot. After .some discussion on the subject, , Mayor Van Bebber said an affirmative . vote would uphold the - decision of the Planning Commission and a negative vote would grant the variance to :Art Hansen. The hearing was closed and Roll Call on this matter carried by the following vote: Ayes.: Councilmen-Brainerd, Ellis, and Mayor Van Bebber Noe,s� Councilmen Battaglia, . Cavanagh, Jr. and Colin. Absent Councilman Gans Appeal denied by a tie vote. .Kenilworth Parent- Teachers Association - traffic 'hazards The "City Attorney stated this was the .time set for hearing re safety of children walking to and from various schools on the East Side. -1- -February 17, 1964 . S.. Highway- -101.. The :letter 'requested that a safety 'survey,and remedial - action be taken as soon as possible:. Copies of the .letter were =sent to State Senator, State Representative, , Governor Brown, State Supt., of Highways and ,State Supt. of Public Instruction.. Cletus:Cgry and'Constance Pratt also addressed the Council offering ,suggestion and expressing a desire for better traffic control. Director of 'Public. Works Donald Scott read a _letter from State Division of Highways, -dated April -3, 1963, re situation not serious enough to - warrant remedial action. Major Hole 'requested that approximate.ly feet of curb on the north side of East - Washington °between - - -Ellis :Street and. the entrance of Kenilworth Junior High be painted red. The= °Mayor said 'this would be added to the :Traffic Committee •Report and 'that the Council would, within its .jurisdiction, do everything possible to help find' a solution to this problem.
