ROLL CALL: Present: Councilmen Adams, Bigelow, Brown, Gustafson, King, Norwood and ' Mayor Schoeningh. Veterans' Memorial & Auditor'ium' Bldg. Letter_:from Victor H. Anderson, %Chdiirman. of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, dated July'. 9, 1956, 'confirming their request that the Washington Gra i-na.r,,.School. site. be. deeded to the County, read and filed. A resolution authorizing the execution of a deed granting to the County of 'Sonoma the _Wa'shington Grammar School site, for the construction and main - teriance of .a Veterans.'. Memorial and Auditorium Building was introduced by Councilman Adams and seconded by Councilman Bigelow. ­ Cbuncil'man King reaffirmed his preference of the Kenilworth Park site, stating, that he believed the City could save approximately $100, 000. 00 by building there -. He remarked that the. Washington Grammar School site should be held forJuture development of the civic center., Councilman Brown expressed the opinion that considerable thought should be given the matter before the City donated' funds for the building of a Veterans' Mez=riorial: He believed the City was being too generous with the County, regarding this m , 4rfer ; that other _cities don't contribute to Veterans' Memorials. He also questioned the right of the City to deed 'the site to the County. In reply to Councilman King, who asked City Manager Ed Frank if the Nlemorial'problem'had been considered from the tax saving angle, Mr. Frank stated that the policy had been set by the Board of Supervisors and the City Council when the °agreement was entered into and that the matter of tax saving was based .on the decision to have a joint building rather than two auditoriums. v July 16, 1956 PETITIONS & COMMUNICATIONS: cont. Snow,- Mr. Chris, Henrichsen Mrs. Chris Henrfchseh Mr. Ken Colin, and Mr. August. Lepori. A letter dated July 13, 1956,, addressed to Mayor Schophingh.and signed by District Attorney Joseph Maddux was. read and filed.' The above letter stated that, in the opinion of the Disirict,A.t.torhey- it would not be possible : to place upon the ballot for the vote th6cifi_ze Petaluma, the matter of location of the proposed Veterans Memorial Alp. ditorium Building. I A 5 minute recess was called at this tim The meeting was balled back to order. Consideration of 1 Budget The Council reviewed the proposed budget as, submitted by City Manager Ed, Frank. Councilman King objected the increase in the budget caused by the -.added personnel in the.Police Dept., Fite Dept. , Dept. of Public Works, and Finance and Records. However, inasmuch as no other Councilman objected to this increase, budget items affected were not changed. Councilman King also expressed'the.,opinion that the Capital Outlay program for the year should be approved along With the balance of the budget and before the appropriation ordinance was introduced. The , majority of the Council agreed to consider the Capital Outlay-program at a- future meeting. T-ne budget as proposed was signed as approved by Councilman-Adams, Big'elow, Brown Gu . stafs'on, Norwood"and Mdyor Schoeningh; whereupon, Res. #1720 N. C.
