The Mayor then asked if the Council would riot be setting a bad precedent by allowing. such a small R` zone Councilman Brown stated that..he had felt it would be preferable to have the C rl zone, adjacent to the R -2 zone in this case, but Planning Commissioner Sa_lies 'had been' of the opinion that the; small buffer zone should be there for proteefon. They felt that the plan had.been laid out quite well. Police Chief Del Maestro explazn'ed that the Traffic Committee„ in' their proposed plan, were attempting to have customer parking near the :bus ne;ss district and parking for 'rye rmerrchants and employes in the fringe areas,, ' Councilman King sra.' ecl that 'he believed these various types of meters would :be of no avail unless their time limits were enforced, He felt that the Traffic Ordinance should. be enforced by marking car's. To a question °by Coune 'Iman - King9 , the- `City'Attorney explained that the taxis Wes were set by resolution separate from the ordinance. Mr. Tom',Cooper and Mr.. Leo Neilsen., Petaluma- Taxi Company, addressed the Council. `stating L`hat they would be in of installing taxi meters, 'but; they would not. agree that the :drivers should be required by ordinance to wear caps,, - Mr_ Gildo Martignol.i, .'Yellow Cab Company, addressed the Council stating t�p and his drivers would Wear caps whether - or - not the. ordinance required it, d.ndl that he was not in favor of. instailing the meters, although he would install,`th(rn if necessary in order to reach an agreement with the City and the , r,other t- ixicab company in town. Police Chief Del Maestro stated' that he would like to see the present ordinMCe - amended so that the 'drivers would be required to show some form of Identification, ' either by Wearing :d special cap or by having a picture of them= aej.ves within the cab. 1�1r °Neilsen. and Mre Cooper expressed the opinion that the wearing of caps Would.-not be' d. good form. of identification but they would be willing to agree" to..having a- picture of the driver in,the cab. for identification, Mr Robert explained that the proposed ordinance would require a picture of the driver within .the cab, . Chief Del Maestro requested that the proposed ordinance also require that . the - cab companies keep ' a log .on their calls,' listing the time the call came 'in,,, where the passenger was picked up and the destination of the passenger. At the request of .Councilman King, the City' Manager was directed to se similar ordinances from other cities to be submitted to the Council by the next regular `meeting, if `pos'sible. -Mayor Schoenin.gh stated. that he had .received,.a request from Mt. Re _Stop - aigns on Hopped St Entering .E "D ". St. & Wash St. Co'unc`ilman Bigelow 'rioted; that the stop= ;signs on` Ho-pp:er Street entering ;•. East Washington and` East "D" Streets were not clearly visible and suggested that these two stop -signs be moved so that they would be'.easier. to see.., . This matter also was referred to the Traffic Committee.
