Edgar Dean,- Chairman of the City - Planning Commission, briefly
went over the Commissicin's reasons for feeling that the City is in need of a
planning consultant. He explained that, as business men,' members of the

particular work. Referring to the City Attorney's memo - regarding the
functions of a planning .commission, Mr. Dean stated " that 4 long range plan
should be adopted in preparation for future growth of the City, *'and* that . .,.
the plan should be guided by people who have had experience along these ,..ljnes.
In conclusion, Mr. Dean informed the Council that it Was the belief,' of 'the
Planning anning Commission the Master Plan-drawn up in 1948, but - never adopted
by the. City, should be brought up to date and. . put into use The Commiss ' ion felt-

Planning Consultant ° cont,
Planning Commissioners Barney Margolis and Wayne Parsons also
add Jlressed the Council pointing out the need for a. planning consultant.
City Manager Ed Frank stated that he had advertised for a. planning
c:'Dfisultant, and had been quite unsuccessful. in receiving replies when the
salary, as set up in the 1957 °58 budget, had been. Listed. After advertising
without the listing of the salary, he stated that answers had been received
from men who would be qualified for the ,job. Mr. Frank pointed out that he
belie <red it would be quite possible to hire a good consu:,l.tant if the City is
w:Li:g to meet the salary schedules of other cities for this jobs He noted
that there was a great demand for men in the planning field today.
The Council being in agreement that the City definitely needs the
services of a professional planner at this time, Acting Mayor King assured
members of the Planning Commission. that the matter would be given full.
consideration by the Council.
