Member's of the Council assured these people that the Council. definitely
pla. to extend English. Street to La Cresta; that money had already been
appropriated by the State for this purpose.
Mrs. Helen, Putnam, President of the Petaluma Board of Education, and
Dry„ Dwight Twist, Secretary of., the- Peta:lum .Board, of 'Education , answered
various questions by members of the audience regarding the closing of streets
f the new school site, etc'

Mr. Vincent S'choeningh addressed.the Council stating that the Merchants"
`C'ommittee of the."Chamber of Commerce was interested in closing Kentucky
Street in the future fora merchandising event to last 2 or 3 days. He requested
ttat the City Attorney check to determine if this could be done, in view of the
fact that this street was within the parking meter distrf:cta
The City Attorney was directed to look -into the matter and .notify the .

Recreation.Center at 'Kenilworth -Park
Letter from Recreation, Music -& Park Commission. dated March- 3, 1958,
recommending that the Council include a measure on -the ballot at the June election
re; erecting a recreation building, on the Kenilworth playground area,, read & filed.
City Attorney Ed Robert reported that he had' contacted the .law firm of
Orrick.. Dahlquist, Herrington ;and iSutcliffe relative to' whether it would be
possible for the City to use a portion of the auditorium building fund' money to
c,on5tru,,t a recreation building °without the necessity of going to an election. He
had riot "yet received ,an answer from the lava firm on this matter, but was
advised. that the Council c_ ould,, at this time, pass a resolution of intention to
use .a-..port :on of the 1945 Auditorium Bond Monies if ,said monies were legally
avilableY" and directing the- City'Attorney to mvestiga.te the legality of using

the electorate; whether the matter should be on the ballot this June or° some
time, later; if a citizens' ° !:committee .should :be appointed .to m recommendations
as to .how the auditorium funds should be spent_; etc.;
Councilman King informed the Council of a building on the Fairgrounds .
which he believed the City might be able to use for a recreation center He.
felt that this possibility should be investigated before putting the construction
of a recreation building, before the voters,
Mr,. Robert explained that the measureVould.hdye to be in the hands:.

The City Attorney w.as directed to prepare the necessary legislation
for this matter for the _adJourned meeting next Monday night°
City Engineer Russell Ingram Was, directed to` pre pare plans,,'
specifications an elevations for the proposed recreation building and submit

10:20 p. m., - A recess was declared at this time to allow time for the
: Committee to study the bid which had been submitted on three new autos.
10:35 po m. The meeting was called back to order. by Councilman
King,, Vice President of the Council.. Shortly thereafter, Mayor Parent
returned to the meeting.
