City Hall - Petaluma, Calif Adjourned meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to order by Mayor Schoeningh. ROLL CALL'. Present: Councilmen Adams, Bigelow' King, Norwood and Mayor Schoeningh. Absent: Councilmen Brown and Gustafson. CONSIDERATION OF UNFINISHED - BUSINESS: LaFrance Corporation; whereupon, Resolution introduced by Councilman Norwood, seconded by Councilman Bigelow, entitled, Aerial Ladder Truck Councilman Chairman of the Committee appointed to study proposals received on the aerial ladder'truck, reported the recommendation of the Committee to accept the proposal of American- "A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE CITY ATTORNEY AND CITY MANAGER TO PREPARE AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING A LEASE CONTRACT. WITH A10RICAN LA FRANCE CORPORATION OF EUAIRA, NE7V7 YORK, FOR THE RENTAL OF AN AERIAL LADDER TRUCK FOR USE BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WITH OPTION TO PURCHASE THE SX17E." was read. After a discussion, during which it was explained by the City Attorney that the action that 'the 'Council was about to take in adopting the resolution, although in his opinion would be perfectly legal, possibly might lead to some legal - complications or might give'grounds for a taxpayervs suit, Councilman Norwood consented to withdraw his introduction of the resolution, and the City Attorney was directed to prepare notice to.bidders and go over the specifications with the.City and Fire Chief and present them to the Council for their approval. City Attorney's Opinion - Equalization of Assessments Report of the City Attorney dated August 9, 19 5, se L ing forth his opinion ' that it was unnecessary for the Council to hold these meetings, because of an agreement between the City of Petaluma and County of Sonoma dated March 319 1949, whereby the assessment and collection of City taxes became the duty of the County, submitted and filed. Mayor Schoeningh requested the Council's opinion on a request received by the City Manager from the Federal Mediation * and Conciliation Service for the use of the basement room in the City Hall for conducting negotiations with the unions which are now on strike.
