first duty in' office, to prepare a resolution thanking Mr.' Brooks for his
unselfish service to the City of 'Petaluma over A Deriod'of 20 years..
Mr. -Robert was then sworn into office by the City Clerk.

Councilman King iftf Orm_6d, him, that the Water Company had provided
a &,Iagram- of the water line and the depth of It, and that the Committee working
on this' project is now ready tom.eet with the Water Company regarding the
easemetit. He stated that be believed, the cemetery matter would only involve
thetitle to the property at the time the City might sell any portion of the park.
City Manager Ed Frank informed the 'd&m. Pil that there was money
available for this project' and that the next step Would be to have a prelimin-
ary meeting of the Comm.ittee an the Water Company to discuss the problem
of the easement.
Councilman King stated that the Committee would report the results
of this meeting to the Council.

held with m,&mbers'o.f the Board of Education on I Feb,. 1, 1956, at which
problems concerning the proposed new McDowell Elementary'
entary'School; the
proposed new Junior High School; and the closing ,of.Bassett Street between
Fair and Broadway were discussed.
In connection with the new McDowell Elementary School, the matters of
�oO street improvements and the location of the .school on the site were
dis(ussed The suggestion was made that the City Council consider transferring
five acres of city property for five acres of school property in order to create a
ve,
buffet between the school property and tha adjacent subdivision.
An connection with the proposed new junior High School, a discussion
took plaice regarding drainage (now being studied by the Sonoma County Flood
Control Officer, State Engineers and our Director of'Public Works) and Zoning.
The closing of BAss'ett Street was also discussed but inasmuch as
plans for this area are not firm as yet, it Was, requested that this
innatter be held in abeyance.
Mayor Schoenin gh thanked Councilman Brown for his report and asked
that the Committee continue as a standin g c ommittee'.
