Adjourned meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to order

Absent: Councilmen Bigelow, -King and Norwood.
Canvass of Election Returns
Mayor Schoeningh appointed the following Council Election Board to canvass
the absentee ballots; returns from the 15 consolidated precincts having been
canvR at the meeting of May 21., 1956:

Clerks - Councilman Adams and Mayor Schoeningh.

DECLARING CANVASS OF RETURNS. AND RESULT OF THE
SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON MAY 1.5,
INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN W. C. Brown at an adjourned meeting. of the City
Council of the City of Petaluma on the 22nd day of :May 1956. -
WHEREAS; the Council of the City of Petaluma, by Resolution. No. 1640
N. C. S. duly passed and adopted on March 19, 1956, designated the precincts and
polling places and appointed the members of the precinct boards for the special
election to be held in said City of Petaluma on May 15, 1956,. as required by
law, for the object and purpose of voting on the following measure
"Shall the Charter 'Prepared and Proposed for the City-
of Petaluma by the ,Board of Freeholders Elected the
28th day of June, 1.955, be ratified and adopted ?''
WHEREAS, said Special Municipal Election was held on Tuesday, May 15
1955, in..accordance with law, and the votes thereat received and canvassed, and
the returns thereof ascertained, determined and declared in all respects as
required by law, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA as
follows;
1. That the City Clerk of the City of Petaluma be and she is hereby
-instructed to enter this _resolution on the minutes of this Council as a 'statement
of the result. of said election.
2. That the total ;number of votes cast in said City at- said special, election
was 3087. That 14 ballots were spoiled and not counted.
3. That at said special election the following measure was submitted to
the electors of said City, as follows:
Shall the Charter Prepared and Proposed for the City
of Petaluma by the Board of Freeholders Elected the
28th day of June,, 1.955 be ratified. 'and adopted?
4. That the number of votes= -given at- - eachiprecinct for and'.against said
measure areas follows:

less than the majority of votes cast at said election.
