This ordinance suspends the, operation Of the previous ordinances, intirod'u"ced., which Will remain On the books and become immediately effective should this ordinance be determined invalid or iroperative for any reason. This ordinance' adopts the basic provi- .sion§, of the State - Sales Tax and opefate's'in conjunction with the rules and, regulations as, set forth under the State Sales and Use Tax Act. The or dinance will not be effective until July l - 1956,-..And it will. not be effective until such time' as the City has entered into an agreement with the State, Board of Equalization, whereby the State Board will perform the functions of administration;. operation .. and collection of the tax. AND USE TAX; PROVIDING FOR THE PERFORMANCE BY THE STATE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION OF ALL FUNCTIONS INCIDENT TO THE ADMINISTRATION, OPERATION AND COLLEC- TION OF THE SALES AND USE TAX HEREBY IMPOSED:. SUSPEND- ING THE PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCES NOS. 442 No C. S. AND 443 No Co SQ DURING SUCH TIME AS THIS ORDINANCE IS OPERA- TIVE; AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF. Councilman Norwood remarked that the split voting on. all of these ord- . lances „was due to the fact that the City of Petaluma is not satisfied with this procedure or any part of it, but they are forced to go on because there is no other choice. Councilman Adams stated that he would have been happy to have seen the .last ordinance- voted down, Councilman, Brown voiced his opinion that there had been.very poor cooperation .on this matter between the Cities and the County, and that he was not in favor of the City maintaining only . 875%.-of the tax. Mayor Schoeningh reminded the Council of the joint meeting with the Chamber of Commerce to be held on Monday evening at 5:45 P. M.
