ROLL CALL: ?resent: {Councilmen Brown, Deiss, King, Myers, Penry, Seidell, , and Mayor Woodson. R_ EADING. OF `THE JOURNAL: e m notes of -the last regular meeting_ of January 21, 1946p were read end approved, as recorded. REPORTS ,OF OFFICERS: a month y reports, of the Auditor, Treasurer, Wharfinger, Chief of Police, Poundmaster, Rodent Exterminator, and Police Judge, were -read and filed. REPORTS OF STANDITG COMMITTEES: e Finance C submitted its report, whereupon - Re'soiution , #5779 C.. S. introduced by Councilman King,, seconded by Councilman Seidell, directing the Auditor to draw warrants (Nos. 1768 to 1902 inclusive) against the various City Funds in payment of claims allowed and approved 'by the Finance Committee, ad -opted by 7*affirmative votes. PETITIONS'AND COMMUNICATIONS: communication from Chief of Police Robert Peters, recommending that eertain locations be made boulevard stops and appropriate signs be established at such- locations, read and filed.. This matter was later discussed and - the City Engineer was asked to prepare a sketch or map showing the existing boulevard stops as well as the proposed additional stops. NEW BUSINESS: raps er of funds: Resolution ;5750 •C.S. introduced*•by Councilman Seidell, seconded by Councilman Brown, directing• the Auditor and to transfer certain specified sums of money from the various funds to the General Fund in settlement for gasoline used by the various departments and previously paid from the General Fund, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Mayor Woodson called attention to the fact that the Washington Street =pavement is deteriorating and the,matter was referred to the City En ineer to prepare as a project statement to be financed from the 1W Streets of Major Importance Fund.. The question of renewing the cable for the electroliers on Washington 'Street was referred to the Lighting Committee. .UNFINISHED BUSINESS' a i aton ot 1945 Bond Proceedings: City Attorney Karl Brooks.reported.having received a letter from the Governor's office, asking his recommendation before Feb. 7th, on.the Bill.to validate the bond proceedings of this City.. He stated that he will communicate with the`Governor to indicate that he does recommend the approval �.o `the Bill. The City Attorney reported that he had communicated with all of the persons who have; manifested interest in the matter of the operation•of °the Matthias Junk Yard, requesting interviews with them, and .that .he would submit a report to the City Council after he has completed his study of the matter. The matter of reducing the number of stalls now occupied by 'the various taxi - cab companies was discussed and laid on the table pending further study, Mr Tom Cooper stating that two of the firms, including his own, were ready to surrender one of the two stalls each firm now occupies provided a third firm would do likewise.
