Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called
to order- by Mayor Woodson.

Present: Councilmen Deiss, King, Minogue, Myers, Seidell, Shoemaker,
and Mayor Woodson.

The` monthly reports of the Poundman Rodent Exterminator, Police
Judge, Chief of Police, Wharfinger; Treasurer, and Auditor, were read
and placed on file.
The Clerk reported the filing of Affidavit of Publication of
oralhaftces Nos. l and 2, Notice to Bidders re the purchase of polied
radio equipment; and the Notice to Bidders re the purchase of an
Addressog'aph and:a Graph -o - type.

" Broadcasting permit:
Request from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners
for permission to,hold a parade on the streets of this City, as well
as ' ° permi.ss!ion to use, the facilities at Kenilworth Park and permission
tows. public address systems in conjunction - with their Labor Day
celebration in this City on September 1, 1947, read and filed, whereupon

gran ting: said request to use public address systems, adopted by 7
affirmative votes.
The request to use the facilities at Kenilworth Park was referred
to the ° "�ecy. of the 4th Dist. Agricultural Association.
Change of date for filing,'Sales' and Use Tax returns:
C'ommurrication from J. W. Tuttle, Deputy Tax Collector, calling
attention to the fact that the-date of filing State Sales and Use Tax
returns has been changed from the 15th of the month following each
quarter to the last day., of the month following each quarter, and
suggest that in order to avoid extra work and confusion for the
local merchants that the City of Petaluma change its ordinance to
conform* with the State, read; filed, and referred to the City Attorney
for preparation of the necessary amendment to the ordinance.
Citizens Committee of 12 requested:
Resolution from the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce stating that
whereas'the sales tax of the City of Petaluma are in excess of
the funds :needed for the original purposes planned by the City Council;
whereas there are numerous other improvements urgently neeaed in the
City °of Petaluma such as streets and street - "lighting; parks, playgrounds,
etc.; therefore requesting that the City Council appoint a citizens
committee of twelve persons.to,study and create a workable program
to be accomplished with.sales tax fund.,s, portions of said funds to
be earmarked to the end recommended by the Committee, read, filed,
and laid on the table pending the appointment of a City Manager.

estimates the apportionment rtionment of gasoline tax funds for

Communication from the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce,

The letter further stated that this reque.st,was• made
because the Board of Directors of th'd Petaluma Chamber Of Commerce
were advised that the officials of the 4th Dist. Agr. Fair had
no funds which could b6-used for advertising the event 6h-d the
Chamber of Commerce Was a sked.to undertake the publicity work.

in the total, sum of $2919.66.
The bid was discussed and action deferred thereon until

The Clerk reported the receipt of two bids, one from Radio
Corporation of America and one from the Corporation,
for"the furnishing of police radio equipment. The bids were
opened., read and referred to Mr L;. 0.- Showalter Police Radio
Technician for study and recommendation.

Mayor Woodson repo ted that the proposed traffic r signal for the
intersection of Third and.D Streets hastbeen Ael g ayed pending a traffic

Mayor Woodson also reported that the cost of-said signal will be
about ' �07500. $4400. of which has already been budgeted and approved
by the'Highway Division. The matter was referred to the City Engineer
and Chief of Police to provide the necessary surveys., reports and
sketches.

Mr. Bob McMullin -, County Assessor, addressed the City Council
outlining the plahl,of-the county to re-assess all property in Petaluma,
commencing the work this September. He stated that they will put 'nine
men in the field for this work and asked that in as much as the new
assessment will be of equal benefit 'to t'he I City of Petaluma., that the
Pity furnish three men for this work. This matter was laid on the
table'fdr reference to the City Manager.. it being the consensus of
opinion that re- assessment of in the City of Petaluma would
be very desirable.
Oak Hill Park -Op,t,ion for HQppital- Site-,

Hospital District, addressed
the City Council formally.- asking that the City of Petaluma give the
Hospital District an option on Oak Hill Park ti be used as a for
the Proposed new hospital,e stated that Federal and State Funds are;available that will ,. H -provide 2/8rds of cost of said hospital.
Referred to the City attorney for-the preparation of an it
being *the consensus Of opinion that if the title can be cleared
enabling the Park to he used for this purpose, that the City Council
, would be willing to have it so used®

'Councilman Minogue reported a faulty manhole at the
corner of Dana and Sheldon :Streets, -which matter was referred to'
the Supt. of'Stteets for investigation and action.
