Adjourned meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma
called to order by Mayor Woodsoh.
ROL CALL:
Present: Councilmen Deiss, King, Minogue, Dyers, Seidell,
Shoemaker, and Mayor Woodson.
REVIEW OF BUDGET
Sections 130 to 136 and 140 to 142 ,were reviewed by the
City Council.
u Public Works :
It was pointed Out that section 132.500 included the purchase
of a blue printing machine; that section.133. included the
sum of $5000. intended for cleaning the digester of the Treatment
Plant; that 133.500 included the sum of $800 °. for the purchase of a
sewer cleaning machine and $500. for a sludge shredder; that
sections 134.400 and 500.included the,purchase of,a 5'ton roller
for 05,100.; a dump truck for $6,000.; a 1000 gallon oil dis-
tributor for `3,000.; an asphaltic spreader for $1,200. and
steel poles for city street signs.
Mr, Mark Hein advised against heavy investment in'street
equipment which he - thought might become idle equipment as he
said similar- equipment of his firm,is not in continual use.
Director of Public Works Henry Ross stated that much more
work to the benefit the City could be accomplished with city
owned equipment.
The City Manager pointed out�.that.$38,000. is expected from
the'Highways Users Tax Fund dur xg 194849 and that it is planned
that.the city acquire basic equipment and that charges for rental
of said equipment will be used to amortize cost of equipment.
Recreation:
Mrs,. John Olmsted, Jr. who stated that � &._-Thayer had accomplished_
much in-his department, suggested that his` salary be increased.
Said suggestion was approved_ by 'a standing vote of 17 persons present.
M. "G. Acorne., Henry and Lou Kaiser spoke briefly in
behalf of the proposed Youth'Center Which the City Manager said
of necessity had fb`�be elim - hdted® "'
Mr. Thayer gave a general review of the recreation program
proposed for 1948 - 49,
The , '0�ity- Manager ` 'the: Sup&int6jtdeft ,Schools
had indicated that °the Board of Education would donate $7000.
for supervision of recreation.
Wickersham Park
A discussion was had regarding the use of Wickersham Park,
Reverend Herbert Gans stating that it was his opinion the park
should be a combined place of recreation and beauty.
The suggestions as to the proposed budget were taken under
consideration by the Council. All of the sections of the
budget having been reviewed the meeting was dj u ed.
