Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma
called to order by Mayor Woodson.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Councilmen Deiss, King, Myers, Seidell, Shoemak
and Ma or Woodson.
Absent: Councilman Minogue,
READING OF THE,JOURNAL:

and 14, were read and approved as recorded.
PETITIONS, COM. & PUBLIC HEARINGS:
Open bids Budgetary Account. Machine:
This being' time set for opening bids for the sale to
the 'City of of a I+,Zultiple Reg ster Budgetary Account -
ing. Machine, the Clerk reported having,rec,eived one bid and
proceeded to open and read said bid from Burroughs Adding
Machine, Co
'Said bid was studied by the City Attorney and City Manager
and approved, whereupon
Resolution #105 N.C.S.
introduced by.Councilman seidell, seconded by Councilman Shoe-
maker.. accepting the bid of Burroughs Adding Machine Company,
dated May 14, 1948, for the sale to this - of a Burroughs
Typewriter Bookkeeping Machine, Style No. 780678, for the
sum of $2,892.31, under Option #i, adopted by 6 affirmative,
votes, 1 absentee.
Open bids �- Sfr,eet, name signs:
This being the time set for opening bids for the sale
to the City of Petaluma of `293 .four ®way unit street name signs,
the Clerk reported having received one bid and proceeded to
open and-,,read said bid from Municipal Purchasing Service, for
the sum of $P_, 263.00
Action was deferred on said bid pending a further study
by the Council of -the type of sign proposed.
Re-- establishment.of drivers' license .Service in Petaluma:
Communication from the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, Sacramento,
California, and a copy of Order issued by A. H..Henderson,
Director of said Department, confirming that, effectiv6 as soon
as trained personnel can be recruited, driverst license service
shall be furnished those areas that have been formerly served,
read and filed.
Request of Pet. Town Meeting.Com. for $50.
Request of the Petaluma Town Meeting Committee for the
'sum of $50..to be used as needed for the expenses incurred in
entertaining the Town Meeting speakers., read, filed, and
referred to the City Manager for disposition.
Protest --Wickersham Park change:
Letters from Mrs. Anna R. Bihn., President, of the Petal
Garden Club, Mrs. Martha Phillips; Mrs,. Bertha E. Vonsen, and
Mr. W. A. To ugh, protesting any proposed charge in "the use of
Wickersham Park, read and filed.
Applications - Bldg Permits:
Applications for building pe rmits and:use permits were
received from the following persons and referred to the City
Planning Commission for recommendation:

REPORTS FROM CITY MGR:
Claims and bills approved by the City Manager for payment
were submitted, whereupon
Resolution #106 N.C.S.

approving the list of claims and bills (Nos. 2871 -to 3104 inclusive)
adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
Appropriations for Music program:
Report from the City Manager on the subject of Appropriations
for Municipal Music Program, together with a memorandum report
'from the Director of Recreation, requesting advice of the Councils
policy regarding maintenance of the Municipal Band, read and filed.
Bay Area-Transit Committee, Delegate for:
Report from the City Manager suggesting that Petaluma appoint
a "del'egate to the Transit Committee'of the Bay Area Council, read
and filed, and
Resolution #107 ;N.C.S.
introduced by Councilman Seidell, - seconded by Councilman Shoemaker,
appointing - James Crase as Petaluma's delegate to the Bay Area
Transit Committee, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee.

Monthly reports of the Police Judge, and the Librarian,'were
read and filed.
Re' commendation from the City Planning Commission recommending
that the application of Carl Behrens-for the c_.onstruction and use
of .a house at the corner of Brown Court and D Street be granted
with certain reservations,, ' whereupon

entitled, "Resolution granting the application of Carl Behrens for

name -signs was laid on the table until the next meeting of the City
Council.

Director of Public Works reported that he had submitted
an estimate of cost- on the Cherry Valley Sewer Project to th
City Attorney.
Wickersham Park - protest of any change in use:*
A delegation of property owners in the of
Wickersham Park, including Mrs.. Emma Allen, Mrs. Halvor Vogensen., .
Mrs. Grover Stone, Ben Young,, Eugene Bell, Clarence Elz„
and John Maegher addressed the Council voicing a very strong
protest to the suggestion of the Citizens Committee that a
portion•of Wickersham Park be. used for recreational purposes.
They objected to the construction of a band shell in the park,
or any form of recreation, stating that they believed any change
in the.use or design of the park as it now is would ruin the
beauty of the park.
Inasnuch as the matter has• not" been referred ;to the F

Councilman -King suggested that 'if the matter does reach
the Council by the next meeting that public notice be given
in the newspapers so that protestants or proponents May appear
at the meeting and be` heard. This-suggestion was approved by
the City Council..
