PETITIONS, COM._ & PUBLIC-HEAR:
Re,- training program for police officers;
Communication from the Dept. of Education, State of California,
relative to the training programs which are available to municipalities
for police officers, and enclosing a description of the courses
available in the two -weeks Institute to be conducted in Alameda
County at the Regional Police School located - at 'Santa Rita, from
, September 13 to September.25, read and filed.
Letter of appreciation from Sec. llgr. , .S. A. Seidell of the
Petaluma Chamber of Commerce, for the co- operation extended the
Petaluma Yacht Club in making Harbor Day a success, read and filed.
Notification froij the Portola Festival and Pageant, Inc.
of parades to take place in San Francisco .Oct. 17 and 23 , and
.inviting the City to be represented in some manner in one or both
of the parades, read and filed.
Applications of William L. Peck; Cornelius, Myers -, and Cornell;
and Harley W. Drake, for building permits, read, filed, and referred
to the City Planning Commission. .

Application of James Blackwell for permission to connect a
; proposed new subdivision 1 east of Petaluma with the City
Sewerage system, read, filed, and referred to the City Planning
Commission for recommendation.
Communication from Marshall M. Wallace, County Surveyor and
Road Commissioner, enclosing a map.delineating property recently
.secured from H. E. and Dorris J.. Clarke, and stating that said
right of, way was secured for the purpose of extending Payran St.
to the City Limits of Petaluma, together with letter from the
City Manager to.Mr. Wallace, stating that said map had been
referred to the City Planning Commission, read and filed.

Assignment of Personnel under date of 1 Sept. 1948, read filed.
Communication from the City Manager, recommending that the
Salary Ordinance be amended to permit the, Health..Officer to be.
paid physical examinations of employees appointed,to regular .
positions in the city's employ, read, filed, and - laid on the
table without action.. Mayor Woodson stated that he was opposed
to the, recommendation: .
Maintenance of trees:,
.Report .from the City Manager on the subject of "Maintenance
of .Trees," referring to" ordinances now on the books requiring
property owners to trim.trees beside or in front of their property
to certain heights and requesting instruction as to the extent
to which the city council Want shd ordinance provisions enforced,
read, filed, and laid on the table without action after Councilman..
King:.and Mayor.Woodson stated that it is a matter which should 'be
carefully studied before a definite policy is established.

Mayor °.Woodson reported on the meeting held on August 51,
1948, with representatives of-the State Division of Highways
and representatives of government and °civic o
with reference to the re ®allocation of State Highway 101.
Re acodptande of S Madison SquaYd.-
The matter of'accepting . streets in Madison Square #2 was brought
to the attention of the Council by Councilman Deiss, who stated
that the Goheen Construction Co. woiAd'like to have the streets
in said subdivision accepted by the City Council in order that
payments to the paving contractor might be completed.
The question of whether or not said work complied with city require-
ments as to grades., specifications, etc. was and referred
to the City Mana-aer and the Director of Public Work for report and
recommendation to the City Council, it being.suggested that the
GOheen Construction Co. present their request for street acceptance
in written application form.
