READING :OF THE JOUFNA'L T e minutes o e last regular meeting of Sept. 20 and the Special Meeting of,Se;pt. 30, were read and approved as recorded. PETITIONS, COM. & PUBLIC HEARINGS: Opening. bids - materials & equip. rental =This being the time set for opening bids for the furnishing of-materials and rental of equipment, the Clerk reported having received four bids-and proceeded to open and read said bids which were referred to the City Attorney and Director of Public Works for review,,. whereupon*. Resolution, #208 N.C.S. introduced by Councilman Shoemaker,, seconded by Councilman Seidell, entitled, ,"Resolution awarding contract for materials and equipment `rental for use in construction of approaches to Bridge St. Bridge and for Concrete floor in. Corporation Yard Building. fe adopted by 7 affirmative votes. In connection with the awarding of the contract for crusher run base and quarry waste, Mr. Mark Hein protested the specifications adopted for said materials, stating that they were not properly drawn to offer his plant, or any other plant within a reasonable distance of Petaluma, an to bid., Progress Estimate #4 - Bridge St. Bridge contract: Communication from Clarence E. Seage, Consulting Engineer, submitting Progress Estimate No. 4 for the construction of the Bridge St Bridge for which payment is now due in the sum of $31, 566.45, read and filed, Whereupon Resolution #209 N.C.S. introduced by Councilman Myers, seconded by Councilman Shoemaker, entitled, " Res authorizing payment of $31,566.34 to Healy 'Tibbetts. Construction Company on Bridge St. Bridge contract." adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Communication from Pacific Coast B1dg.Officials Conf. re 26th annual business meeting to be held in Sacramento, Calif. Oct. 12 to '15, read and filed., Letter from Rear Admiral F. J. Lowry, U.S.Navy Commander, inviting the citizens of Petaluma to visit Mare Island's "Open House on Wednesday, Oct. 27th, read and filed. Re - proposed re- location of portion of State Highway: Communication from Col. John•Skeggs,. Asst. State Highway Engineer, regarding the proposed relocation of portion of State Highway, requesting the advice of the City-Council as to whether a public hearing in this matter is necessary or desirable, read and filed. This matter was discussed by the Council and it was decided that the Council hold an informal meeting on Wednesday, Oct.6, at 7 o +clock with representatives from the Division of Highways, to decide whether or not a public hearing should be held in Petaluma. Report from the City Planning Commission upholding their previous recommendation that the ep plication.of Cornelius, Meyer, and Cornell, for multiple dwellings on East "D" Street.be denied, read and filed, whereupon Resolution #213 N.C.S - introduced by . Councilman Myers.. seconded by Councilman Shoemaker,., denying said application, adopted by 5 affirmative votes, Mayor Woodson and Councilman King voting against the adoption of the resolution.- INTRODUCTION. OF ORDINANCES: Amend.- to Salary Ord. - B -41 Patrolmen: Ord'* #65 N.C.S. introduced by Councilman Myers; seconded by Councilman Shoemaker, entitled, "An Ordinance to- amend section 19 of Ordinance No. 56 N.C.S. for the purpose of fixing a rate of $1.50 per hour for certain B -41 Patrolmen (as needed.) waspread and passed to print by 7 affirmative votes. Regulating dispensing of-flammable liquids: Ord. #66 N.C.S. introduced by Councilman Myers, seconded by Shoemaker; entitled.. Z a k CONSIDERATION OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Iimpvo of Hayes Ave: The matter of improving Hayes Avenue was discussed and referred to the City .Attorney for action after a report on the subject by the Director of Public Works recommending said improvement was read and filed® Councilman King suggested that the Council consider the inclusion in improvement districts of other unimproved streets. Extension of Payran St.: The City Attorney was asked to prepare necessary papers in the matter of dedicating that part of Payran St. which is now a part Kenilworth Park in order that said - street may be extended, to, Lindberg Lane. City Property to be put up for sale: Mayor Woodson - suggested that the City, Manager take steps to dispose of city property known as the Shoe Factory now''leased to private parties.:. It was the opinion of the Council that this property should be sold and returned to the assessment roll.. .Court action to be taken against John remove fence across,Payran St. The City Attorney was authorized to bring court action against P,T. Retition*that,sales & use tax be abolished;::. Mr'. Jack CaUa.nagh addressed the'Council opposing the City sales and use tax ordinance, asking that the same be abolished and stating that millions of dollars of merchandise-has come into Petaluma upon which no tax has ever been paid. INo action taken. Mr'. J: C. Youngberg addressed the Council asking that, the Council endorse the county's $3,000,.000.. sanitation bond issue which will be on the November ballot, - The matter 'was "taker under con sideration. Councilmen Myers. and Shoemak gave interesting reports of .the'League Conference which they recently attended. Councilman Myers asked that the Council seriously con.slder the. -adoption of admission taxes and hotel and motel taxes which.he stated are being levied in many cities in the State.
