READ ING OF JOU RNAL: - minutes of the last regular meeting of Dec. 20 and the adjourned-meeting Dec. 21 were read and approved'as: recorded.. PETITITONS; COM. & PUBLIC HEARINGS: Sale of Tax Deeded ppty: Notice from County Tax Collector of sale of tax deeded property situate.on the corner of 5th and.Mt.View on Jan.24,1949, for not le ss'• than $1200.00, read and filed. Letter of thanks from J. A.. Thayer, Dir. of Recreation, for help and co- operation received during 1948, read and - filed. Letter from Mrs., -A. M. Potter asking for help in solving a drainage problem on Magnolia Avenue, read and filed and referred to Manager and Director of Public Works for investigation. City Attorney Karl Brooks was asked to write to the County Engineer'regarding the responsibility in the matter. Petition re proposed.zone change; Petition addressed to the City Planning Commission,contain- ing 26 signatures, requesting that all of the area within the boundaries. of Howard St; on the East; West St. on the.N.orth; the City Limits on the West; and a lane running West from Howard St. on the South, be changed from a proposed R -1 to a R -2 Zoning District, read,& filed. Application of the Petaluma City High School District for a building permit for construction of an athletic field was referred to the City Planning Commission for recommendation. u The application -of L. Scott to move a building was discussed and verbally approved for the Mayorts signature. Abandonment of. certain streets: A.map and plan showing streets and portions of streets proposed to be vacated, abandoned and closed to public use by Res. #271 N.C.S. was submitted and filed. REPORTS OF' CITY MANAGER: Assignment of Personnel under dates of 22 and 31 of Dec. 1948 read'and filed. Claims approved by the City Manager were submitted, whereupon Resolution #267 N.C.S. introduced by Councilmanseidell, seconded by Councilman Deiss, approving claims (Nos. 1738 to 1955 inclusive)'adopted by 7 affirmative votes. REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS: Recommendation of the City Planning Commission that the application of J. S. McGaughey for the construction of a ware- house at :Coulsen Alley be granted, and filed, whereupon Resolution #268 N.C.S. introduced by Councilman. Seidell, seconded by Councilman Deiss, granting said application, adopted by.7 affirmative votes. 283 Plann. Granting application for bldg; permit -Otto K. Abandonment of certain streets -*High School ppty :, Resolution #271 N;.C.S. introduced by Councilman Shoemaker, seconded'by Councilman Deiss, entitled, "Resolution of Intention to vacate and abandon and close to public use the following streets and portions of streets in Petaluma, to - wit: (1) Broadway Street, along"the entire width,thereof from a.point distant 92 feet "southeasterly from the intersection of said street with the easterly line of Bassett Street to the most southeasterly end of said Broadway Street; (2) Sheldon'Street, along the entire width thereof, between the easterly line of Bassett 'street and the Westerly line of` "L"yell Street; (3) all of Lyell Street; and (4) all of the alley, along the entire width thereof, lying between Broadway Street and Sheldon Street and running between the easterly line of'Bassett Street and the " westerly line of ''Lyell Istreet. adopted 7 affirmative votes. Accepting contributions toward - basketball activities Resolution #272 N.CeS. introduced by Shoemaker, seconded by Councilman Seidell,' entitled, "Resolution accepting certain funds." adopted ?by 7 * affirmat ive votes. , Re Kenilworth Park ownership: The of deeding Kenilworth Park to the State was discussed, Mayor Woodson reporting thatthe'C'ity Attorney had ruled that the deed proposal must be submitted to the electors of.the city because the park had been acquired through a bond issue. Re improvement of streets: Councilman King reported that the City'Attorney had ruled that the inclusion of a'number of unimproved streets in one assessment district is permissible. Councilman King suggested that a survey be made_of such streets and that.steps, taken to commence proceedings for.street improvements. City Manager Lohn Fick -lin stated that such a survey has already been made through tho for Petaluma's Future.
