ROLL CALL: Present: Councilmen Deiss, Minogue, Myers, Shoemaker, and Mayor Woodson: Absent: Councilmen King,.and Seidell. PETITIONS COT.. & PUBLIC HEARINGS: Hearin abandonment of Broadway, Sheldon, Lyell,etc. in' connec lo" n �r itH . hearing on the abandonment of Broadway; Sheldon ;;Lyell; and an alley lying between Broadway and Sheldon Sts, and between Bassett and Lyell Sts., the Clerk reported the filing of Affidavit of Publication of Resolution'of Intention to vacata and abandon said streets, and the Affidavit of Posting of the Supt. of ;Streets of Notices of the Passage of said Resolution of Intention. Mayor Woodson invited comments or objections to the proposed abandonment but none were offered, whereupon Resolution #279 N.C.S. introduced by Councilman .Shoemaker, seconded by Councilman Myers, entitled, " A Resolution ordering the vacation and abandonment. and closing to public use the following streets and - portions of streets in Petaluma, to -wit :' (1) Broadway Street along the. entire width thereof from a point" distant 92 feet southeasterly from the intersection of said street with the easterly line of Bassett Street to the most southeasterly end of said Broadway Street; (2) Sheldon Street, along the entire width. thereof, between the easterly line of Bassett Street and_the- westerly line of Lyell Street; (3) all of Lyell ;Street; (4) All of the alley, along the entire width thereof, lying between Broadway - 'Street and Sheldon Street and running between the easterly line Of Bas Street and the westerly line of Lyell , Street. rr adopted by 5 affirmative votes, 2 absentees. Cop letion of Library Heatin System: Certification o .Henry A. o ss, Dsrector of Public Works, that the Library Heating contract has been completed in accord -, ance with the contract documents and drawings for the total contract price of $4,164.57, plus extras of $50000, read and filed, whereupon Resolution #280 N.C. introduced by Councilman Minogue, seconded by Councilman Myers, accepting completion of Library Heating.System, adopted by 5 affirmative votes, 2 absentees. Com letionn of Cherry Valley Sewer er i- fication of Henry A . Ross, Director of Public Works, that the Cherry Valley Sewer Project has been completed in accordance with the contract documents and drawings and change orders for tl total sum of $3,399.74 read and filed, whereupon Resolution #281 N.C.,S. introduced by Councilman Minogue, seconded by Councilman 11yers, accepting completion of Cherry Valley S ewer Project,, adopted by 5 affirmative votes, 2 absentees. Re proposed regulation of livestock: communication, off ering, With ltd e help of Dr. Mohrman and the City Attorney, to-make necessary corrections in the proposed ordinance for the regulation of livestock; was filed by Ift Mahtee Olmsted. Mrs. Olmsted stated that she believed.the Council was influenced by the implication that there is a large opposed to the ordinance as presented; that before it was even drawn the proposed. ordinance was the object of a malicious campaign which misinformed the public by telling people that the ordinance would prohibit dogs and cats ; that the 900 signatures were obtained under false pretenses and should be regarded as being invalid; and furthermore that counter- petition bore the letterhead of the Petaluma Riding and Driving Club, which ,group upon being appraised of this fact, expressly forbade the use of Rev. 'Gans addressed . the Council* in support of the proposed ordinance. gilts. Anna Holmes reported a very undesirable condition .in her neighborhood caused by keeping large numbefs of chickens.
