Special. meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to
order by councilman rialter T. "inogue, w1io by the adoption of Res. 778
N.C.8.,introduced by Councilman 3.roim, seconded by Councilman Norwood,, v a.s appointed IfayDr pro ter. to serve in the temporary absence of
Mayor "dyers who was out of town, and Nice President Shoemaker, who
was late in arriving at the meeting.

that the City Council initiate proceedings that would place an amend-
ment to Article 10, Sec. 69 of the City Charter on the ballot so that..
0.0 advertising contract be awarded to the lowest responsible
bidder publishing a Daily or 'leekly newspaper read and filed.
The matter carte up for general discussion and was referred to the
City attorney for an opinion as to what cha might be made in the
Charter retarding the designation of the official newspaper which would
permit weekly papers to bid on at least a portion of the official
advertising.
Councilman Schwobeda questioned whether a City could desi8mate more
than one official newspaper.
Annexation of inhabited territory -m continued
16 on. on e pet on to annex un e erritory, submitted by
James 31ackwell, et al, was deferred following advice that the Planning
Commission had recommended that Parcel ;12,,included in the petition", be
eliminated from the annexation procedings.

Fire Station and Equip ment`
A scuss ms ha re a" n the proposed bond election for a
fire station for ��st Petaluma and for, the acquisition of needed new
fire equipment. P:iembers of the City Council and the City T:..n.ager pointed
out that at a .recent meeting with the Tad. of Fire Undeniriters it was
learned that the building of a new station at :Jashington and Payran
Sts., and the purchase of additional equipment would result in sufficient
efficiency Points to substantially lower the present fire insurance
rates and the aonstnuction of the station would be'undeniritten
within an eight year period.
It was a "reed that ' *" O, 000. be set - as the amount of bonds
required for the new Station, and :'V.000. for the acquisition of
two fire pumpin en;ylnes and accessory equipment,
The matter was referred to the City .attorney for preparation of
