DECLARING CANVASS OF RETURNS AND RESULTS
OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL AND PETALUMA HIGH SCHOOL BOARD
AND CHARTER AMENDMENT and ORDINANCE ADOPTION
HELD NOVEMBER 3, 1998, WITH THE
STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma conducted a Regular Election on November 3,
1998, in conjunction with the Statewide General Election; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma also conducted a Special Election Consolidated with
the Regular Election which includes one Charter measure (Measure H) and one
ordinance (Measure I) which read as follows:
Measure H - Council Compensation
Shall the voters of the City of Petaluma amend Charter "Section Yes
19 Salaries" to read "The Council may act, by ordinance, to
provide compensation to each of its members in an amount No
authorized by state law: The Council may act, by ordinance, to
provide compensation to the Mayor in an amount up to 150
percent of the compensation set for Council members."? [which
currently would allow up to $400 a month for Council members]
Measure I -Urban Growth Boundary
Shall a measure be adopted that amends the City of Petaluma Yes
General Plan to establish an Urban Growth Boundary that would
limit urban development and the provision of City water and sewer No
services beyond the Urban Growth Boundary and require voter
approval for amendments to the Urban Growth Boundary until
December 31, 1998?
WHEREAS, the Municipal Election was held in the City of Petaluma on November 3, 1998;
and,
WHEREAS, the votes from said election were received and canvassed by the Sonoma County
and Marin County Elections Departments, and the returns thereof were ascertained and
declazed in all respects as required by law:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the- City Council of the City of Petaluma as
follows:
(1) The City Clerk is hereby instructed to enter this Resolution on the minutes of this
meeting as a statement of the result of said election;

(2) The total number of ballots cast on the Measures, Charter amendments, School
Board, Mayor and City Council elections held on November 3, 1998, were as follows:
