R CALL: Mayor McFaPresent Councilmen Gervasoni, Ingerson, Mye rs, Penry, Woodson, and . Absent: Councilman Deiss.. READI QF THE (JOURNAL: The minutes of the last regular meeting of December 16th were read I and approved as recorded. REPORTS OF OFFICERS: The monthly reports of the Police Judge, Poundman, Garbage Inspector Auditor, Treasurer, and City Wharfinger were read and filed.. The Auditor reported the apportionment of $88,424.47 from the Unapportione.d Fund to the various funds entitled thereto. REPORTSI STANDING COMMITTEES: The Finance Committee submitted its report, whereupon Resolution #4465 C.S. introduced by Councilman Woodson, seconded by Councilman Gervasoni, directing the Auditor to draw warrants (Nos. 1539 to 1663 inclusive) against the various Cilty IFu.nds in payment of claims allowed and approved by the Finance Committee, adoplted-by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. PETITIONS "AND GOMMUNICATI,O.NS : ommualcation from the Better Films Council of Petaluma, inviting the Mayo'r' City Council to attend a public meeting at the High School, T 'esdayl evening, January 14th; was read and filed. Re - Main St. widening: Letter from the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works,, k Washington, D. C. stating that the PVVA would be unable to entertain the application of the City of Petaluma for funds with which to complete certain o ti nI p Vl.p I iniprov'ements to Main Street because said street is a part of a Federal Aid -, Hi ghw,ay System, and suggesting that we take the matter up with. the Bureau of_., .Public Roads Roads of the Department of Agriculture, read and filed. A copy of a 1`ett ° er "written by City Attorney Brooks t,o the Bureau of Public Roads of the rl Department of Agriculture, in line with the suggestion from the Federal Emergency Administration, was read and filed. Re - radio interference: In response to a recent inquiry regarding the service rendered "by °the - Pacific Gas & Electric Company in answering and handling complaints o;f..electrical interference with radio reception, a letter was read from . the Pacific Gas & Electric Company in which they advised that the company ,, maintain s a department at division headquarters in San Rafael in charge of a corp,etent radio engineer, whose services are available in the Petaluma district any time, upon reasonable notice. A supply of complaint forms to be used in reporting to the department was enclosed. NEW" BUS INESS : �7nda Vista Drain: Councilman Penry called the attention of the Council to the broken down condition of a long drain in Linda Vista Court. The matter was referred to the Chairman of the Street Committee, City Engineer, Supt. of Streets, and City Attorney for investigation as to whether or not the City of Petaluma is. responsible for maintaining this drain. d,1 UNFINISHED BUSINESS: h e C a map the majorcityst w streets, as request furt ed by the t State o n Division of Highways' Mayor bcFadden reported having attended a meeting with. WPA officials in Francisco regarding the proposed armory. He stated that it was his opinion that it will not be possible to obtain an armory for Petaluma as long as such projects are set up under the WPA. Mayor McFadden also reported that work will start on the Hill Blvd. WPA pro,* J ec t on January 8th, with about 24 men employed. Councilman Myers reported that the map prepared by the City Engineer for zoning purposes had been placed in his hands and that he Will shortly call a�ineeting of his committee to review the map. LI, 01 .A decision in the matter of the construction of ,a small cabin for the Washington Street Bridge tender was, held in abeyance pending the viewing of the location by the entire Council. The recent offer of Mr. Frank Allen to purchase a small piece of property on 4.th Street for approximately 850.00 Was rejected on the recommendation of the committee.. Mr. Melvin. Hein-addressed the Council requesting th'e better lighting of the Keokuk Magnolia intersection. The matter was referred to the`Street Lighting Committee for investigation.. Mr. Hein also called attention to the dangerous condition of the railroad cros °sing on East D Street, and the City Attorney was directi ed to communicate with the officials of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad Co,. regarding the matter. Councilman Penry suggested that the Christmas festoons recently installed by the,Chamber of Commerce be taken down until the of removing same. g p next holiday season.
