Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to order by Mayor Woodson, .ROLL CALL: resent: Councilmen Deiss, Gervasoni, Ingerson, Myers Penry, .Peters, and Mayor Woodsono READING OF THE JOURNAL.: The minutes of the last regular meeting of May 3rd were read and approved as recorded. REPORTS OF OFFICERS The report 'of the Librarian for the month of April was read and filed. The Clerk :reported the filing of Affidavit of Publication of Notice of Election. 1 REPORTS OF STANDING `COILMITTEES The Finance Committee submitted its report, whereupon. Resolution #4619 G.S.. introduced by Coune seconded by Councilman Myers, directing the Auditor to draw warrants (Nos. 2648 to 2769 inclusive) against the various City Funds in payment of claims allowed and &approved by the Finance Committee, adopted by'7 affirmative votes. PETITIONS_AND COMMUNICATIONS: of mitLni�cation from the Petaluma Junior Chamber of Commerce, enclosing a resolution endorsing the proposed bond issues be voted on June 8'th 1937, read and filed. Petition from the- Veterans' Welfare Board asking that taxes now :appearing on the tax records against certain premises described . in that certain deed recorded January 29 - , '1937, in Volume 426 Page_ 54 of Official Records of Sonoma County,, formerly in the name Hof Ira B. Raymond, be cancelled, read and filed, and Resolution #4620 C.S. introduced by Councilman Gervasoni, seconded by Councilman Penry, granting said application,. adopted by '7 affirmative votes. ,Telegram from Assemblyman H. B. Scudder, stating that the charter amendments had been approved and were in the mail, read and filed. Notification from J. T. Studdert, Tax Collector, th.a.t he had deeded to the City of Petaluma part of lot 1.79, bounded on the NW by Nielsen, NE by Morphopolus, SE by Perreria, containing about 9.46 acres, for unpaid city taxes for-the year 1931 -32, read and filed. ADOPTION OF ORDUANCES: Ordinance No. 470 C.S.. introduced by Councilman Ingerson, seconded.by Councilman Penry, authorizing the employment of Harry Neville as the Engineer of said City, to prepare :plans and specifications, supervise the construction and initial operation of a sewer and, sewage.. disposal, system, in the event the proposition to incur a bonded indebtedness in the sum of $225,000.00 is approved by the electors at the election to be held on June 8, 1937,_ and city shall determine to construct said sewer and sewage disposal system within one year after s °aid election, came regularly and was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Deiss, Gervasoni, Ingerson,. Myers., Penry, Peters, and Mayor Woodson. Noes: None. Absent: None. NE11 BUSINESS X50.00 appropr,iation,' -for Memorial. Day Celebration: Resolution #46`21 C.S.. introduced by Councilman Ingerson, seconded by Councilman Penry, appropriating the sum of $50.00 for the Memorial Day Celebration for the year 1937, and directing the Auditor to draw a warrant against the General Fund in said sum of $50.00, payable to the order of the United ,Spanish American War Veterans, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. U1 4: Mr. K. G. Acorne addressed the Council extending an invitation to the `members of the City Council and the officials of the City of Petaluma to-'attend the opening of the American Legion Nite Baseball season on Monday.evening,, May 24th., He also asked permiss from.. the City ouncil to broadcast the n ht. baseball y g games a t McNear Park' for the coming season, and also permission to broadcast the municipal election returns' from the office of the Petaluma Argus- Courier on June 8th, 1937, whereupon Resolution #4622 C.S. introduced by Councilman Peters, seconded by Councilman Gervasoni, granting said requests, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Judge Frank lvlardi.s addressed the Council asking for an increase of salary' The matter was, discussed and taken under advisement. Mayor Woodson I reported having received communications from the Federal PWA office to the effect that the Government is changing its set -up with regard to PWA. projects and that at this time there is no money available and that they are not approving any new grants. However, they countered with another proposition similar- to the WPA in which they will allow the wages of men employed, plus 15%. Mayor Woodson stated a matters determine or not it Engineer in. charge it would be advantageous to the Clay to enter into these projects in conjunction with the WPA. UNFINISHED BUS INESS: Mechanical amusement devices: Cou.nci_lman Peters reported. that the committee appointed to investigate the licensing of mechanical amusement devices had met and examined the type of inac`h:ine in question. and had found that said machines are being licensed in many cities and in other cities are being operated without. license. The Committee recommended that an ordinance be adopted regulating and licensing such machines., providing a small license for each machine. The matter was discussed and the Committee was asked to work with the City Attorney on the preparation of a suitable ordinance for presentation at the next regular meeting. Mr,. Kyle addressed the Council regarding the renewal of the le0s.e with Mr. Jacquith on the shoe factory building, outlining the plans for nor. Jacquith for the improvement of the building, and the Buildings and Grounds Committee was given further time in. iti ch to work out an agreement between the City and Iir. Jacquith. The matter changing the designation for parking on Western Avenue was deferred .for the present on recommendation of Councilman Penry, Chairman of the Street Committee.
