Councilmen, Deis :, Gervason, Berger, Myers, P,eiry, Peters, - and, Mayor Woodson. READING OF THE JOURNAL: ' The minutes of the - last regular meeting of August 21,19 " were read. .and approved as recorded. REPORTS OF OFF.I'CERS: The monthly reports of the Chief of Police, P.oundman,, Police. Judge, Aud=it.or, Treasurer,, .Wharfinger,. and Garbage Inspector; were read and filed. The annual report of the Board of Library Trustees wa,s placed on file. REPORTS OF ,STANDIN_G COI4MITTEES: The Finance Committee submitted its report, whereupon Resolution #5051 C.S. introduc,e'd by Councilman Myers., seconded. by Councilman Deis s,. directing the. Auditor and Treasurer to draw warrants (Nos.. 547 to 711 .inclusive) against the various City Funds in payment of claims. allowed and approved by the Finance Committee, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. PETITIONS AND GOM'MUNICATI�ONS Invitation. from Petaluma Post No.. 28 American Legion., to the Mayor and City Council to participate ,in the coming Arni.stice Day Parade and Celebration, read and filed, and on motion by Councilman Penry., seconded by Councilman 'Berger, said invitation was accepted. C`ommunicat_ion from the Board of Fire Commission, submitting .new rules and regulations for the Fire Department, and asking that said rules and regulations be adopted by the City Council, read and fi.led,, whereupon Resolution #5052 C.S. introduced:by °Councilman Berger, seconded by Councilman Penry; adopting said rules . and regulations, adopted by 7 affirmative° votes., Re - Cavanagh claim,: Communication from the City Attorney with reference' to the "Demand for Payment of Claim" filed with the City Clerk by J. E. Cavanagh et al on. August 14,, 1939, and , atating that in his op iion:, no further amount in settlement of said claim should be offered . beyond that offered at the time of the last Demand for Payment, read and f iled. Communication from M. Pere.11i= Minett,i, calling the attention of the City Council to the demand presented. to the City of Petaluma by the Cavanaghs- on August 14, 1939, requesting payment of the judgment obtained on April 14, 1 by them against the City for $10,162.00 plus int.ere,st and costs, and requesting that the city and its 'officers take immediate def.ini't=e'ac'tion to pay the claim or mje.ct it, and stating that the failure of the City t.a act upon the claim. September 7, 1939 would force them to conclude that the city had rejected said claim, was read, filed and ,referred to the City Attorney for his advice NEW BUSINESS: Mayor Woodson stated that a request had been made by local representatives of the State Board of Equalization to use the office on the '.2nd floor of the City Hall forAerly occupied 'by the Police Judge. Ivan W. Liddle - Music Commissioner: Resolution # #5056 C:. S. introduced by Councilman Myers, seconded by' Councilman. Deiss, accepting the resignation of Norman 'Hostetter as a ,member of the Music Commission. and .appointing Ivan W. Liddle to -fill said vacancy-for the unexpired term of said Norman Hostetter, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Delegates to League Convention: Re=solution }#5067 G. .S S. ,introduced by Councilman Myers, seconded by Councilman Penry, delegating City Officials to attend the annual convention of the League of . California Muni.cip alit ie:s at Oakland, September 18 to 21 inclusive, and authorizing their expenses paid out of the City Treasury,, adopted b-N '7 affirmative votes. He suggested that publicity be given the matter in. , order that- this work might be done before the rainy season, in order to save the pumping and treatment of this surplus water. The Street Committee was granted further time in the annexation matter. Counvilman -Penry stated that some action should, be taken toward the repairing of the State Highway through Petaluma. It was decided that another request be sent to Colonel Skeggs. regarding the budgeting of State Highway Funds for the maintenance and rep_ :ai,r of Third and Main Street . - 1 ADJOURNMENT: There 'being no meeting was declared further business to come before the meeting, the adjourned.
