ROLL C Present: Councilmen Berger, Deiss, Gervasoni, Myers, Penry, Peters, and Mayor Woodson. READING.OF THE JOURNAL: T e minutes of t e last regular meeting of June 17, 1940, were read and approved as recorded. REPORTS_ OF OFFICERS: T e month y reports of the Auditor, Treasurer, Garbage Inspector, Wharfinger,*Poundman, Chiefelof Police, and Police Judge, Were read and placed on file. The Clerk reported the filing of Affidavit of,Publication of Ordinance No. 525 C.S. The City Engineer submitted an estimate of the cost of materials for the improvement of Bayliss Street and Copeland Street, as a W.P.A. Project, which e stimate was held in abeyance pending further conference with the property owners in said locality. REPORTS OF STANDING COI Uv1I T TEES : T e inane ommit ee sub mitted its report, whereupon Resolution ;5151 C.S. introduced by Councilman Gervasoni, seconded by Councilman Myers, directing the Auditor to draw warrants (Nos. 1 to 136 inclusive) against the various City Funds in payment of claims allowed and approved`by the Finance Committee, adopted by-7 affirmative votes. PETITIONS AND COIrNNNICATIONS: Notice of N orth Bay eague meeting to be held ih Healdsburg on July 20, 1940, read and filed. Request from the Board of Fire Commission that the sum of 21,_ be appropriated for the use of the Fire Fund for the fiscal year 1940 -41, on each :100.00 of assessed valuation, read and filed and laid on the table for future consideration. Communication from the Railroad of the rate structure of the Pacific and referred to the .City Attorney. Commission regarding their study Gas & Electric Co. was read, filed, ADOPTION OF ORDIPIANICES : Or inane Po. 525 C.S. introduced by Councilman Peters, seconded by Councilman Gervasoni, entitled, "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PETALtM REGULATING THE KEEPING OF COWS AND THE :SALE OF MILK OR 11ILK PRODUCTS IN THE CITY OF PETALU1 PROVIDING FOR A LICENSE TAY, UPON COWS KEPT 7ITHIN SAID CITY; PROVIDING FOR AN INSPECTION FEE UPON ALL 11ILK OR 1v1ILK PRODUCTS SOLD IN SAID CITY; PROVIDING FOR A MILK INSPECTION DEPART14EN.T TO BE P BY SAID INSPECTION FEES; AND PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION; HEREOF; REPEALING ORDINANCES 305 C.S., 357 C a ;. ,AN1D .364 C.S. NEW BUSINESS: Opening bids - Official Advertising: This being the time set for opening bids for the official advertising , p g receiv for the City of Petaluma the Clerk re po rted Navin recev�,d one bid from the Petaluma Argun- Courier, and proceeded to open and read said bid, whereupon Resolution #5152 C.S. introduced by Councilman Berger, seconded by Councilman Peters, accepting the bid of the Petaluma'Argus- Courier for the official.advertising for the City cf Petaluma for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1941, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Re dredging pr '.o jest U.S. Government;;: Resolutioh ' # C.S. introduced by Berger,, seconded by Councilman Penry, agreeing` to construct all necessary levees and spillways on-the property of The McNear Company for the United States Government project for the wideninganl deepening of the channel of the Petaluma River 'during the ye 1;940.,, .and further agreeing to assume all responsibility for any damages that may result from such construction of said necessary levees and spillways and from the deposit of dredged spoils on the property, of the ITONear Company, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. The matter of the .purchase of a suitable automobile for the Poundffiaster was referred to the Finance Coimnittee. The matter of a 1 -fight standard which is being - erected two feet into. the street area at, the site of the new Union Oil Company station at Howard Street and Western Avenue was referred to the City Attorney. Putnam that' he be compensated forZc 1` w k done on serer allegedly damaged when the storm sewer was installed at B and Fair Streets, Councilman Penry reported that the cost of repairing Hopper, Bridge, and- Copeland Streets would be approximately X1400•.00 and that the work must be done shortly,. Mayor Woodson suggested that the Division of Highways be contacted regarding this work and that, if possible, it be carried on out of the 1/4¢ gas tax fund for streets of major importance.
