Raising salary of Janitor:

the salary of L. G., Brewer, Janitor of the City Hall, at the sum of
$55.00 per month; effective September 1, 1942, adopted by 7 affirmative
votes;
The matter'of purchasing a vacuum cleaner for u's:e of the Janitor
w4s referred to the Buildings and Grounds Committee with power to act.
The City Attorney was asked to communicate with Mr. Norton of the
Scrap Metal Drive, with regard to removing the remaining scrap metal
from the , vacant lot on 4th & 'C Streets.
Re.- Salvage Drive:
Mr. Valenti Mattei, of the Salvage Committee, addressed the
Council and introduced Mr. Henry * Zeidell.,, who wishes to enter into
an agreement with the City for the collection of scrap, metal and other
salvage materials. He proposed to take charge of the various drives
and to share hi .s profits on the sale of the materials collected with
the City. The matter was discussed and the Mayor appointed Councilmen
Penry, Seidell and King and the City Attorney to investigate. the
proposal and bring back their recommendations.
Contract with City Garbage Co•. - collection of garbage & rubbish:
Councilman Seidell reported that the Sanitation Committee had met
with members of the City Garbage Company and attorney, and had.
approved a contract between the City Garbage Company and the City of
Petaluma for the exclusive collection of the garbage and rubbish at
the same collection rates as now in effect, for a consideration of

$125. per month, for a tern of approximately :S years or until the ..
termination of-the contract between the City'of Petaluma and the Royal
Tallow & S:oap Co.., whereupon

C.ounctilman. Seidel -1, who is in charge of insurance matters for
the City of Petaluma, stated that the Council has not as yet approved
any policy of group life, hospitalization 'or other insurance;, or accepted
any responsibility in connection therewith.
Resignation of Otto 1`J. Berger:

New Plumbing and repairs for C ity Jail-
The matter of replacing the old plumbing in the City Jail was
d iscussed and referred to the Buildings and Crounds'Committee and
City Engineer for plans, specifications and estimates of cost.

Mayor Woodson reported that'Supervisor.Knight had assured him
that 'the road t'o the Royal Tallow & Soap C'ompanyts plant would
'be improved as soon the county funds are allocated.
