Comm.: Mayor Woodson - appointed.Councilman Brown as a representative from. the City Council to meet with the Army and Navy Recreational Committee Mr. M. Goldman of the Army an =d Navy Recreational Committee addressed. the Council stating that, due - to the increased number of service men station in this community,, it'•has been necessary to spend more than anticipated to maintain the U.S.O. and'oth. recreational activities and he requested that the City donate the sump of $100.00 for said purpose. This. request was approved, whereupon Reso luti on { 5463 C. S . introduced by Councilman Myers, seconded by Councilman - Deis�s, donating and contributing the sum of $100°00 from the Entertainment and Promotion Fund of t-he City of 'Petaluma. to the Army and Navy Recreational Committee., adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee City.Attorney Brooks :presented a request from the attorney for the City Garbage Company, asking that the present garbage collection ordinance be amended- to provide that said collector establish and main- tain 'an office for the purpose of _receiving garbage collection fees' ,and that 'all persons :served by said City 'Garbage Company pay their fees at that particular off ice. This matter Was discussed and referred to the Sanitary. Committee for . investigation and recommendation. Protest to drillin of commercial wells,'in residential districts:' A group of property owners in the western section of Petaluma including,,. Messrs. Fry, Kor"tu4, Hewitt, Wallace, and Hagopian, addressed the Council stating that they have heard that wells are to. - be, drilled in` their section -of town for commercial purposes -They-entered a verbal protest again - the drilling of such wells stating that the use of well water in J arge quantities: as would be needed for commercial purposes, would,result in the lowering of the water level of their private wells: Mayor-Woodson reported on a meeting of the War :Production Board that he and Councilman - Penry r9cently attended, in San Francisco; where they learned that heavy ;construction equipment is badly needed by contractors on -government work, and that all cities and counties are asked to pool their construction equipment.. This matter was discussed and referred' to the Street Committee to: again check' the equipment owned by this City and to offer for sale those pieces Which can be spared - and can be replaced by more "modern equipment .af t:er. the war' The matter of allowing employees entering the service of the country one .month ' s additional pay was brought up • by Councilman King and referred to the City Attorney for investigation and report back. Fi Counc;�lman B reported that the new wharf for the use of the re Department on the Petaluma River has been very satisfactorily completed by. the City Engineer and the Superintendent of 'Streets,, . and the old wharf fenced. off. Agreement with County of Sonoma for mutual aid Mr. Nathan Thompson, 'Co- ordnator of the Petaluma Council of Defense, address the Council, stating that the matter of enete-ring into an agreement with - the County of Sonoma for mutual aid. and assistance during times of. imminent public• danger,, had -been- discussed Eby the members ."of they Petaluma Defens Council and they had voted unanimously to enter into. such an agreemen t.. City Attorney Brooks reviewed the Memorandum of Agreement for Mutual Aid, whereupon Resolution x'5464 C.S. introduced by Councilman King, seconded by Councilman Deiss, resolving that the City of Petaluma enter into .an, agreement with the County of - Sonoma and various cities and districts thereof, for mutual aid and assistance during times of imminent public danger,, and authorizing the Mayon and City Clerk to sign said agreement, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
