the contract for said automobile to Gene Paige Motor Co. for the sum
of �$.797.48, and the .second hand 1942 Ford V-eight Sedan Automobile
adopted by *7 affirmative - votes.
Spec.if idation-s -for the painting of the Fire Station- and the Sewage
Disposal, Plant were approved by the Buildings and, Grounds Committee
and referred to the City Attorn to prepare an Ordinance, and Notice -
to Bidders for said work.

Mrs,. W4 L. Norton., Mrs:. Payson Clark,, Mrs. k.O.Smith, Rev. R.Orman
Roberts,. dna, Mr Le1gh Shoem. and other interested citizens addressed
the Council on behalf of a'-Recreat!Onal Plan for Petaluma. Mrs.
,Norton,, ChAirman, of the Committee 'outlined the importance of a plan
suitable f or a community of this the need for a definite budget
, and the appointment of suitable for p ' ers.onne on the Commission. She stated
that the funds would be used salaries�of Play supervisors,,. materials,,
and eq . uipment. Several members of the. Committee spoke in favor of` a
-curfew 'law for children under the age of 16 yearsi.
Councilman Brown and Mayor Woodson pointed out that the Finance

Committee has begun work on fixing budgets for the c oming year
and °that due "to a drop in revenue from St and other sources,,,
and -an increase in the operating expenses of the City, it appears
that it Vi - 11 be; necessary to increase the tax rate substantially`
this year, but that consideration is being given to the requests
for a Recreational. Commission and that, if•it is pons ble, funds
.will be set aside for thi purpose.
Supt of .Schools, David- Du -rst,- reported that the plan for
- remodeling, the Pepper Kindergarten has been dropped due to a
lack of interest in the Child Nursery Project and that therefor -
the $2500:, pledged to said project by the City, will Inot be
needed. r
Councilman King reported that considerable equipment froMi
the Office of Civilian' Defense has been appropriated to the
C ity of Petalum including a heady trailer and skid pump
but that there is notsui.table equipment in the Fire Dept:, to
which said trailers can be attached. This'matter was, referred
to the Fi Commission fo further co ns iderati •o n.-
