Regular meeting of the Council. of the' of Petaluma
called to order by Mayor Woodson. .

The Minutes Of the last regular meeting of January 17 1944
were read and approved as recorded.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS':
The m9n'thly of the Treasurer, Auditor, 'Librarian,
Wharfinger, Rodent Exterminator, Poundmaster, Police Chief, and
Police Jud were read and filed.

App cation of Dan Mftks for position as Police. Officer,
read and filed and referred to the Chief of Police..
Official Census :
Communication from the D of Commerce, Bureau' of
the Census certifying to the returns of the Special Census of
Petaluma, as of Dezember 3`l, 1943
and showing a total population
within the city limits of 9,559, read,, filed,, sand, referred to the
City Attorney for transmittal to State authorities.
Communication from Mrs. 'At. L. Norton, Recreation Chairman,
of the - Petali-ma Council of Parents and Teachers., stating that she
believed $1800'.. would* adequately cover a 'recreational, program
for Petaluma until. Sept.. 1. 1944, but further stating that there
is a that the Field Representative entative of Youth Authority
will make an informal study of our community very soon and that
it would, be logical to wait for his recommendations,, read, and

Recommendation that the rules and regulations of the Petaluma
Fire, Department, be amended to increase the, salariez of the members
of said department, was submitted by the President of the Board of

Copies of .registration indices be furnished by County Clerk
Resolution #5581 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Myers, saconded by Councilman Deiaa
requesting the, County Cleric to furnish, twenty copies of the indices
of the registration of elects bs to the City of Petaluma, adopted by
7 affirmative votes.
Ambulance:
Councilman King reported that Mr. Marion recently disp,osed
of his ambulance and that at the T)reseht time the City of Petaluma
is.withOut, ambulance - service; thai todate no private concern seemed,
interested in'condtating ; an ambulance busines's.
Mr. V. S. Beardsley addressed the Council, offering for sale
a custom built ambulance built on an International 1038 Panel Model
for the sum of $1650. plus' sales - tax.
The Matter was discussed and referred to the Finance,C
for investigation and report back.
In conne,ction,with public ambulance service, Mrs. Payson
Clark, stated that it might be p.osysible for the Red Cros's ambulance
to assist during 'the present emergency.
UNFIN ISHED 'BUSINESS
Boltz . var_iance :
Attorney John Lounibos, N1r B Boltz,, and Attorney Lewis
Cromwell addressed' the Council regarding the peLtit'lon of Zelma ' Bolt'z
for a variance' from the Zoning Ordinance The matter was discussed
and laid on the until the meeting of' City Council on the
14th of February, the City Planning Commission to be asked' to attend
said meeting and dis the matter with the City Council.
Lakeville Highway drainage:
C ity Attorney Brooks reviewed a meeting held.on Jan.'24th with
county and city ,officials, property owners., highway officials, etc.
interested in, remedying the flooding of L .Highway and adjacent
property' storm periods.. He stated that preliminary plans are
now being, prepared by the County and our_ City Engineer and that it is
hope -,d. that a solution to the problem can be., reached.

introduced by Councilman Dyers, seconded by Councilman Deiss,
adjourning the .meeting to the `14th day of Febrt ar�T, 1944, at the hour
of '7:3.0 P.M. for the: purpose of receiving bids and.offers to purchase
the 1944 Refunding Bonds of this City, and for such other business as
shall be presented for dFis.cussion or action at said adjourned meeting,
adopted by 7 affirmative votes.
