READING OF THE JOURNAL: THe minutes of the last regular meeting of April 3rd.,, 1944, were. read and approved as recorded. REPORTS OF OFFICERS: lThe Tlt)rarlcqn":s report for the month of March,, 1944, was read and placed on file. ;F- REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES: The Finance 7ommit its report whereupon Resolution #5600 G.S. introduced by Councilman Seidell seconded by Counellman'Brown directing the Auditor to draw warrants (Nos. 2438 to 255 inclusive) against the various 'City Funds in payment of claims allowed and approved by the Finance. Truck route to be presented to State Highway Commission as Post-War... - Project: Mayor Woodson stated that th , State Highway Commission will meet in Sacramento On April 20th for the discussion of post.-War highway projects and he suggested that the City Attorney and as many as possible of the, Councilmen attend said .meeting to seek the approval of said. Commission on .the proposed truck route. Lakeville. Highway Drainage City Attorney Brooks reported that he-had.received a copy of a letter written by Marshall M. Wallace,, Gounty Surveyor and Road Commission- er., to Supervisor R`. Howard Knight., also a map thearea in the vicinity of'Lakeville Highway; the letter containing the results of Mr. Wallac6vs investigation and findings as to the drainage situation in that area and - recommendatio - :s f - the remedying - in said drainage problem. also his ecommendation or ( IY , 9 Of The letter and recommendations and map mere discussed by the City Council and City Engineer and laid on thO table pending the filing by the City Engineer of his survey and recommendations, which he was urged to prepare as soon as possible. 04 Re® funds for operation of Hospitality'House 1944 -45.: - Councilman Walter Brown, reported that following the request of the Army and.Navy Recreation Commission for funds with which to operate the Hospitality House for the fiscal year 1944 -45, the Finance Committee had studied the financial condition of the 'City of Petaluma and that the expenditures for the first seven months of - operation of this year showed an increase of $12 over the same period of last year; that after considering, this fact and the estimated receipts,_ it is evident that•.. the tax rage of the City will have to be increased to meet the increased operation - costs of the for the year 1944 -45 and -that the City is in n'o position to give any .I*inanc.ial aid to the Hospitality House, in fact from all indications. it will be necessary_ to ,increase the tax rate to the maximum limit allowed by City Charter'..
