REPORTS 'OF STANDING COI&ITTEES:

introduced by Councilman King by Councilman Seidell, directing
the - Auditor to draw warrants t . 890 to '99.9 inclusive) against. the
various City Funds in payment, of claims - allowed and approved by the
Finance 'Committee, adopted by 6 ..affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
PETITIONS - AND COMMUNICA.TI'ONS
Re display of .Bear Flag on Public Bldgs.
Communication from the Grand Parlor Native Sons of the Golden
West; calling to a law adopted by the ;State Legislature in
1943, providing for the display, of the National and State Flags during
business hours upon or' in front of. the 'buil:dings or grounds of each
public . building, read and filed.
.This matter was discussed and referred, to the City Attorney and
the Buildings and Grounds Committee with power- to act.
Communication from Toland C. McGettigan, Assistant Director Law
Enforcement, California State War Council, submitting a copy of the Law
Enforcement Mutual Aid Plan, and asking that said plan be adopted and
approved as expeditiously as possible, read and filed. Action on
the Plan was deferred pe.nding study 'by. the Chief'of Police
and City Attorney
Notice from the Redwood Empire Association of the 'Conference
to °be held in Lake County on October 20th and 21st, read and filed.
Letters from the Crowley Launch and Tugboat Co:. and the United
Towing Co. requesting that misce llaneous dredging be performed in
Petaluma River assoon as possible in order to keep the stream open
for navigation, read and filed.
NEW BUSINESS:

introduced by Councilman King,, seconded by Councilman Seidell, author-
izing J. 5,. , Woodson,, Mayor, to make application to the State Director
of Finance for financial assistance in Civilian Defense .acti es,
under '-provisions of Chapter 805, Statutes of 1943, adopted by' 6
affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
UNFINISHED
ounc man Myers was granted further time to report on the
estimated cost Hof "removing paint from the street electroliers.
Councilman 'De s.s reported, that work on re-roofing the City
Hall is completed that the old fire bell has been.removed to the
Petaluma . Fire Station,, and that the position of the flag ,pole. is to
be changed so as to make it more convenient for the janitor to raise
the flag.
Attorney Lewis Cromwell addressed the City Council on behalf
of the petition. filed by E Ma G. Cavanagh and Geo ., P. McNear for the
establishment. of the uniform width of Weller Street to 40 Mr.
Cromwell said his clients expect to improve their property at some
future time and are desirous of `having a definite property line,
established. He also said his clients are prepared to meet the
expense of advertising.,, etc.,
It was the opinion of several of` the Councilmen that this was
a matter for Court decision rather than action by the City Council.

The - `mattes was referred to the City Attorney for conference
with Attorney Cromwell.
