READING OF THE JOURNAL: T nutes 7of _e .last regular meeting of May 21st and the adjourned meeting of May 22nd were read and approved as recorded. REPORTS OF CITY OFFI,CIALS`: - The,monthl y reports of the Wharfinger, - Police Judge, Auditor and Treasurer were read and filed. . The Clerk reported the filing of Affidavits of Publication of Notice of Award of Contract, Olive St., Sewer; Notice -to Bidders and Notice of .Final Hearing District No. '3; also the filing of Affidavits of Posting of Ordinances No. 339 C.S. and No. 340 C.S. REPORTS, OF .STANDING COMMITTEES The report of the Finance Committee was read, whereupon Resolution #3721 C:S. introduced by-Councilman Van Bebber,•s.econded by Councilman Jessen, directing the Auditor to draw warrants against the various'City Funds in payment of claims allowed and approved by the Finance Committee, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS: Application or perm ss3 on to sell soft drinks from Mrs. Pearl Monett read and filed, whereupon Resolution #3722 C.,S. introduced by Coundlman Jessen, see Counci:lman,Van Bebber, granting said application, adopted by 7 affirmative votes." Communication from the Pacific Coast Building Officials Conference regarding the uniform code read and filed and the Clerk.'was directed to find out the cost of said code. ADOPTION OF ORDINANCES: Ordinance' No. 9 C.S. amending Ordinance No. 332 G.S. up regularly -and was adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Ordinance-No. 340 C.S. appropriating and setting aside the sum of $1100.00 to •pay , the cost of the construction of a culvert 'in., on and across Keokuk.St. came.up. regularly and was adopted by 7 affirma- tive votes. NEW BUSINESS.-If-w s B eing` the time set for opening bids for the construction of a culvert' keokuk St. extension, the Clerk reported having received one:'bid from A. Schlunegar, whereupon Resolution - #3723 C.S. introduced by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, awarding the too A. Tiis�eing the time set for hearing protests regarding the improvement of Fifth Street, the Clerk reported that no protests had been filed, Whereupon Resolution #372.4 C.S. introduced by Councilman Ingeraon, seconded by Councilman Riewerts, ordering the work done and directing the clerk to advertise for bids, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. -Resolution #3725 C.S. introduced by Councilman Jessen, seconded by Councilman Pendleton directing the Clerk to advertise for bids f'or the official advertising for the coming year. -, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. This being the time set for final hearing upon Acquisition and Improvement,Distri -ct No. 3, the Clerk reported that no protests had been filed, whereupon , Resolution #3727 C, S, introduced by Councilman Pendleton, seconded by Councilman Jessen, accept - ing work and fixing the amount of bonds, adopted by ' 7 affirmative votes. Telephone Alley - .The C ity Engineer reported progress in.the matter of- improving Telephone Alley. He was directed to prepare plans and specifications for the improvement -of said alley. , 'The matter of sewering Ninth Street was discussed and action• deferred until the next meeting. Councilman Van Bobber called the attention of the Council to traveling chimney sweeps, stating that the Fire Board has had numerous complaints of unsatisfactory work and hi -gh prices.. The matter was di.s'cussed and-on-motion Councilman - Farrell, seconded by Councilman Riewerts, referred back to the Firs Board for recommendation. Ordinance No. 338 C.S. previously read and laid on the table, - regulating cleaning and dyeing establishments, was brought up and discussed at-length, Attorney,Cromwe;ll ap.pe�Rring In behalf- of cleaning establishments. --: The ordinance was referred to the City Attorney and Mr. Cromwell for revision before introduction.
