Assessment: This "beiiigMthe "-time .set for hearing of protests on the Telephone Alley assessments, the Clerk reported that no written protests had been filed, whereupon Resolution #3774 C.S. introduced by Councilman Van Bebber, seconded by Counc:ilman'Farrell, confirming said assessment and ordering warrant issued, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. Councilman Jessen entered the meeting at this time. Opinion re Piatt claim: The City Attorney filed a written opinion on the matter of the t claim of J. B. Piatt for the sum of ,$500.00; whereupon Resolution #3775 C.S. -«< introduced by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, rejecting said bill as not a valid claim against the City, adopted by <"7- affirmative votes. " A delegation from the Armistice Day C`ommitt°e.e addressed the Counci asking for •the sum of $150.00 to help defray expenses, whereupon Resolution #3776 C.S. introduced by Councilman Jessen,, seconded by Councilman Pendleton, contributing $150.00'to said committee for Armistice Day Celebration, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. ' Resolution #3777 C.S. introduced by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, authorizing and delegating the' Chief of Police as a delegate to the Convention of Peace Offi Association, expenses to be paid by the City, adopted by 7 affirmative votes, 173 Gasoline Curb Pumps: The - Street ^Committee.reported having investigated the request for 4 curb pumps on,North'Main.Street and recommended that said applications be denied.... On motion. by Council man Van Bebber, seconded by Councilman Je;ssen said recommendation was unanimously approved. In this regard Attorney Donahue addressed the'Council.sta.ting- that the Council should not discriminate in granting permits gasoline curb pumps; that they should all be-denied or all granted. City Attorney. Howell was asked to give an opi the subject. Cancellation of taxes - Welfare Board: A request - from the Veterans Welfare Board of cancellation of city taxes on Lot 13° Coady Court, now standing.. in the name. of the Veterans Welfar Board, was referredl'to the City Attorney for report. at the next meeting. (_ .• %; 'More hydrants Councilman -Van' Bebbe`r reported that the Fire Commi.ssi,on was desirous of replacing. eiight. old hydrants with. new ones.. on motion._ by Councilman Jessen, secondOd`by 'Councilman Farrell, the Fire Board .was authorized to replace these old hydrants at the rate of two each-month to be paid for' out of the General Fund. Fish Peddling: i 1 Mr. Reiche and Mr. Jensen Addressed the Council protesting against outsider merchants peddling fish in the City without a license. The matter was referred to the Officer to determine whether or not the fish are handled in.a sanitary condition. Fire protection lower Third St. Mr. J. A'. Ken:ney.addressed the. Council proposing to install his system of pumping water from the river without a contract of any kind from the city. He stated that he, believed that if the system proved satisfactory that the Council would approve and aceept.it without contract.
