January 7th, 1929.
Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to
order by Mayor Sales.
R OLL CALL:
� Councilmen present,: Farrell, Ingerson, .Jessen, Pendleton, Riewerts,
Van Bebber and Mayor Sales.
READING OF THE JOURNAL:
The minutes of e last regular meeting of December 17th were read
and approved as recorded.
REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS:
,e monthly repot s of the Police Judge, Poundmaster, Wharfinger,
Auditor and Treasurer were read and filed.
The City Attorney submitted a written opinion regarding a proposed
amendment to the City Charter. Filed.
REPORTS OF STAND2NG COMMITTEES:
The F nance Committee su mitted its report,, whereupon
} r Resolution #3788 C.S.
introduced byr- Councilman Van Bebb.er, seconded by Councilman Jessen,
directing the Auditor to draw warrants on the vari -ous City Funds in
payment of cla ms•aallowed and approved by the Finance Committee,adopted
by '7 affirmative =-votes.
The Street-Committee filed a written report regarding gasoline
curb pumps, recommending that the pumps already installed'be allowed to
remain but that no more new pumps be permitted. On motion by Councilman
Jessen, seconded. by Councilman Van - Bebb.er. the report and recommendation
of the Street Committee was adopted by the following vote: Ayes:
Councilmen Inger.son,.Jessen., Pendleton, Riewerts, 'Van Bebber and Mayor
Sales. Noes: Councilman Farrell. Motion'carried and so ordered,.
PETITIONS- AND COMMUNICATIONS;.
Application from C. T. Beffa for permission to sell soft drinks
at his place of business on Water Street,. read; filed and
Resolution #3789 S.
introduced by Councilman Pendleton, seconded by Councilman Jessen,
granting such permit,, adopted by 7 affirmative votes.
Communication from Herman. Weber,, proposing to arrange the Washingt
Street Bridge so that it could be electrically operated, read and filed.
It was the consensus of epinion that this is a worth -while proposition
and the City Engineer was instructed to meet with Mr. Weber and prepare
plans and specifications for the work..
Letter from the League of California Municipalities regarding
state.sewage disposal research work, read and filed and

introduced by Councilman Riewerts, seconded by Councilman Ingerson,
requesting the legislature of the State of California to appropriate
$,65,000 for the establishment and maintenance during the next biennium
of the proper facilities-for investigation and research in the methods
of sewage - and.w.astes disposal and treatment, adopt.ed by 7 affirmative
votes.
Request -from the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company for
permission to place poke, anchor and tree .guy at different locations,
read, filed and referred to the Street Committee with power to act.
NEW BUSINESS:

The matter of laying sidewalks on English Street, between Fair and
Boardway was discussed and referred to the Street Superintendent. , The
matter of a sidewalk in front of the Lepori property on Kentucky Street
was also discussed - no action taken pending further investigation.

and estimates for the improvement of Keokuk Street with oil bound
macadam, concrete curbs., gut-ters and sidewalks:
